GL X3000 Spitz AX Vs ZTE MC7010

Hi all,

I need some advice. I am looking into signing up to mobile data sim when I move home in a couple of months.

Have come across these two devices after reading some posts:

1. Spitz AX
2. ZTE MC7010 Modem

I am wondering what you would recommend between these?

I intend to run a few security cameras (poe), a couple of access points, and a couple of laptops with myself and my partner working from home. We do utilise vpns to access geo restricted content. Thanks.

I assume I will need a third-party router with the ZTE (plus a pole for mounting), and need external antennas with the Spitz AX (feel free to recommend any 4x4 mimo antenna), so expecting additional costs on top but expecting the kit to save me money over the long run.

Thanks in advance!

PS. I carried out a (indoor) speedtest today with my phone on smarty (4g connection) and results were 31 Mbps down and 1.5 Mbps Up.

I am prejudiced as I have been using GL.inet kit in my van for a long time. (OpenWRT etc). However, these tend to be focused at the compact portable market except for gateways like the Brume 2. The Spitz AX is a lovely bit of kit and ideal for RVs but currently expensive especially if you can only achieve low speeds. I will be getting one myself but not yet.

You really need to survey on all four sides of your property for all networks to see if the expenditure will be worth it including 5G.

If it is for a fixed location there are many models discussed on this forum which may be more robust and provide less restrictions (out of the box).

You could consider a 5G router with a good CAT20/5G modem in bridge mode connected to your WIFI router that would provide a wider choice of router kit.

@Meatball thank you. So I will cross the Spitz AX off my list.

@Mark1 I do but looking to cut down on my bills.

I'll have another look at the ZTE MC7010 on more threads.

so generally, it does not look like in my case that i should consider going mobile broadband route only to save money?

This is more for a rural case.

Recently sacked off my mums 900mb fttp line in favour of an mc7010 on Three to save money (£25/mo vs £6/mo). Obviously dependant on proximity to your mast, but she gets a decent 600Mb/sec download speed, more than enough for Alexa and Netflix to work...
