My Glow Telecom dial-up connection dissapeared wednesday afternoon (along with other users of this ISP) and every phone number I've tried to contact them with has the same recorded message of 'we are currently experiencing technical difficulties' and then cuts off.

I've also heard that the company went into administration 2 weeks ago.

Does anybody know anything?

Regards.
yes its true what you`ve heard the administators are in and you should pull the plug on your bank debit , all those using the dialup number given will be charged at 4p per minute/ps get a new isp fast and have them chase you for the money like i`m doing

Glow problems

I too have had an evesham/evemail account for several years with no problems until now. The above discussion’s been very useful. I understand that if you pay by bank card, the bank can’t cancel it. Same for a credit card. Unless Glow cancel for you on request, you could only really cancel the card and/or account – even then, they could probably go after you for the money unless you could show they’re in breach.

I found out that Glow was in administration via the ft.com site. I then checked the site http://cgi.www.gazette.co.uk which actually states that the administration orders were made on Glow Communications and Glow Telecommunications on 20 January 2004 !

I’ve spoken with the administrator 3 times now. I’ve been advised that the internet service is provided by Glow International and it is not in administration, ie William A Batty of Antony Batty & Co isn’t the administrator of the internet provider as it isn’t in administration.

I can’t get on to the Glow telecom site any more – doesn’t seem to work. Does anyone have a direct link for the evemail terms and conditions please or could they provide any details of how I could get them please ?

Terms and conditions

If you post your e-mail address, Kilted, I could scan them and mail them over if thats any good to you?
The quality won't be much good but you should be able to read them easily enough. ;)

I tried doing a search on Google and didn't find much of use and the Glow / Evemail sites are either down or useless.

Glow Credit Card Subscribers

I have been following the discussion and found it helpful in deciding what to do.

I pay my monthly dial-up charges by credit card. I called the bank and asked how I can stop more money being collected. I was told it's not possible unless I send proof the company is in administration then their people can contact Glows bank and arrange to have the payments stopped that way.

I logged onto Companies House website and Glow Telecom Ltd is now held there with a status of 'In Administration'. I printed this and sent it to the administration centre with a covering letter and am waiting to hear back from them.

For those with Direct Debit arrangements you should just be able to get your bank to stop making payments under the rules governing DDs.

Hope this helps.

Certainly well worth the try - I'd be interested to hear how you get on.

The administrator told me that the email service is provided by Glow International and they aren't one of the Glow companies in administration. That said, it's difficult without knowing the full contractual relationship among all the companies in the group.

Good luck :)

Definitely worth a go

Kilted... my visa statement clearly states Glow Telecom Limited of Telford as the company collecting the money each month from my account. If that same company is listed as in administration, which it is, then I don't see how their bank can continue collecting charges from people. I am hoping NatWest will take a similar view. :crap:

Will certainly let you know when I get a response from them, either way.

I got through to "Customer Care" today and finally managed to confirm that my account was cancelled. Had to give 30 days notice but do get a refund for days offline

My credit card did used to say Glow Telecom Limited of Telford. However, the most recent statement with the November payment shows Glow Telecom Inter St Peter Inte GB - don't know why it changed but I'll try to follow up with the administrator.

Thanks everyone who has posted, I have been reading this topic for the past 2 days and have been very interested in what I have read.
I called the sales team today, only to get a girl saying how part of the company was going into adminisration, however, it wasn't the internet side of the company. That would still keep on going.
Thus, making the terms & conditions posted by someone on here invalid to the situation we are in.

When speaking to the bank about getting it transactions cancelled, I was put through to our beloved ISP and they got a techy to call back.
Not only was he quite rude, accusing me of "blaming" him for the problems, but he sounded alot like my old maths teacher, and so we weren't on trustworthy ground to start off with.

He gave me instructions to get online making me feel how stupid I was for something so simple, and then he put the phone down.
So i'm thinking, "good, back online!" I click to connect and supprise supprise, it doens't work!!

So, back to the sales team, who tell me not to believe everything I read on the internet, and also inform me that the techical support went home at 1pm.
Perfect.
Well, i suppose one good thing has come out of this, the upgrade to broadband I have been wanting for AGES.

Another day, another year !

Is it just me, or is anyone else suddenly having problems trying to connect ?
Since the 6th Sept. I've been unable to connect - invalid account name or password.

I have a PAYG dialup that works fine (but costs more !), so its not the modem.

Are Glow/Etelecom/Unofon still there ?

etelecom/Glow Telecom ...or whoever

I am also having the same problems trying to connect (and did not know anything about unofonuk as no-one contacted me after the last debacle in December 04). Using my local library's service, I have discovered from the vnunet site a chat forum where a number of people have posted similar issues. It seems that they've gone to the wall yet again and that Legend Communications were trying to do something but there does not seem to be a contact or information point. With no valid contact point, how can you even cancel your monthly payment? After all, it is automatically charged to the credit card.

Probably best to inform your bank of the situation.

Can you point us to the website you found ?
I've had a quick look around the web, but haven't found anything new on glow/unofon/whatever going bust. Ta.

Unfortunately, as all ISP traders insist on a credit card payment, it can ONLY be stopped by the ISP themselves. The credit card company just say that its between you and the supplier - they just process the transaction. If it was with the bank, then we would have control of the payment rather than the ISP.

There's some useful info on this forum -
http://forums.webactivemagazine.co.uk/thread.jsp?forum=2&thread=45827&start=30&msRange=15

It starts out as www.forums.vnunet.com.

It seems as tho one or two people have managed to contact Unofon in Jersey and have been able to cancel their contracts over the phone with them. I'll be joining them very soon!

As above forum, this was posted by another user today ...

I finally got through to Unofon in Jersey and have been told that they were informed this morning that the internet service has now been cancelled. All customers are being advised to find an alternate ISP, and that email addresses will soon become unusable (if they aren't already).
