Gmail and x-notifier getting on my nurves..

long story short, every time my net goes down be it through a stale session or just some random router glitch (l dont get many of them) and l either leave my browser open when it happens or even more annoying.. open firefox to reboot my router l end up having problems with gmail/google accounts that l have added to an addon called x-notifier.

lve no idea why but if the account was being checked while it went down, suddenly when lm able to get online again every account when l click on the icons on my menu bars to access each gmail account suddenly takes me to a login page, whats more annoying is every damn account then wants me to send SMS verification codes to my phone so l can get in again.. after that it takes 10mins for the email addon to start checking the account again.. most annoying tho is one address that wants me to use a device l dont have any more to login.

suffice to say, l want to turn off this crappy security layer but l dont think its covered under two step verification and its really starting to bother me because if l cold booted my router (turned it off for 20mins then back on again) there wouldnt be any issue or verifications requested. l dont get why l have to verify every account just to get back into my email addresses purely because x-marks was unable to check while l was offline rebooting my net.

Sounds like cookies are being corrupted/deleted; I am having a similar issue - I think with a new .ac USB device.

Sometimes something locks up EVERYTHING related to internet access and USB access; only a forced shutdown works as the PC will just hang during the shutdown procedure.

Then on start-up I get several "First Time" info panels pop up, that I have always ticked as "Dont show again", and I find certain icons have moved to default positions on the desk top.

I suspect the device driver is at fault, as even without the lock-up, USB drives wont work properly if plugged into the same channel as the .ac device - which also claims it would work better in a USB3 port when it IS plugged into a USB3 port, but never says anything when plugged into a USB2 port!!!

talking of device issues, l did have a wireless issue.. ld get slowdown on my net l eventually found a more recent driver for my adapter which so far seems to work much better.. tho it doesnt really explain why the rare occasion l open my browser to reboot my router when my net stalls that l have to verify each of my gmail accounts.

It is one of life's mysteries, why does the "Welcome to MailWasher" window pop up every time MY bad driver locks up the USB system and forces me to do a power off reboot.

And why does the scan of my wifes Home Office letter saying she is getting UK citizenship keep moving from bottom right to top left on my screen.............

Do you use a SSD for your OS?
(Thats "Solid State Drive", rather than "Submersible Ship-Diesel" ;) )

ld look at what mail washer is doing if it locks up always at the same point.. thats pretty suspect if you ask me. it wouldnt be unheard of for third party programs to interfere with drivers.

maybe you should put it on the other side of the scanner XD mine has an arrow where the corner should be lol.

and yes, lve had a SSD as my OS drive for the best part of 3 years now.. my original was a 60gb, but l upgraded to a 128gb one when it started bothering me how quick 60gb filled.. strangely this install on the 128gb is doing well in the respects l still have 70gb left.

This only started when the new .ac and driver was installed.

My previous issues with the PC locking up - which I thought were FF64 (as that was the day it started), turned out to be the brand new SSD dying; a few weeks later it just crapped out mid evening and was no longer recognised by any of my PCs as a drive.

might be worth removing the driver (or rolling back) just for amusement and see if thats the problem.

as for the SSD, one thing ld be interested in knowing would be if automatic defragging was turned on.. from win7 up l believe its a option thats "on" by default and l make it a point to turn it all off as l have a weekly day l do all my maintenance. granted theres always that chance a new drive arriving at your door will be DOA, it happens after all... but generally the most common issue lve heard with ppl saying their SSD drive died within a month was that they defragged it.. even got told l didnt know what l was talking about by one person despite the fact that l knew what a defrag does..

that being it rearranges data.. commonly accessed data gets moved towards the centre of the disk platter where the arm has to move the less to move meaning faster access and the least accessed data gets moved to the outer parts of the disk (well outter as in further from the most accessed data).. seeing as SSDs dont have a platter or any kind of moving part a defrag moving data around the disk is pretty redundant and only serves to damage the disk when you try.

I know about df'ing, and never use the M$ built in POS anyway. And yes I know DF'ing a SSD can kill it.

all l can say is l know one or two who didnt visit the settings and their SSDs were defragging without their knowledge.. settings seem to be switched on as standard or they generally are whenever lve installed from scratch..

l shouldnt have an issue this time tho as lve imaged my system lol, only thing l need worry about is installing apps and windows updates, then create a new image saving more time next install lol.

Where is the setting?? It isnt one I remember coming across.

I have a "Proper" defrag program, it takes a fraction of the time the M$ POS takes, and there are a lot more options for what you want the defrag to do for example, putting all the large, often used programs on the fastest, outside edge of each platter.

well on win7 upwards its usually around the defrag menu.. off properties > tools > Defrag Schedule.

as with yourself l use a third party program, tho l only tend to need to defrag two of my drives usually, the others dont get accessed half as much.

OK, the only option I have is "Defrag now". Maybe because I use Pro?? Or perhaps it is an option removed by SP1, or a later update. I didnt get Win7 until SP1 was out, so I dont know; as I said before, I havent seen a scheduled defrag on any of my Win7 boxes.

taken a screencap.. lm assuming you mean the defrag now button on the properties menu... however clicking that gives you the disk degragmenter window as you can see in my screencap.. (and as previously stated, the scheduler button is on this page as shown in the screencap)

AHH!!, thanks.

It was moved from the previous versions then. I checked and it was "ON" (but never run); it is now set to "OFF".

UPDATE.

I think Win7 knows the difference between a HDD and a SSD, the other two drives HAD been degfragged recently by the built in program. Not that I noticed; although I have found the PC locked up twice recently, after leaving it running a big download, so perhaps that is what caused it.

no worries, l like getting all techy.. love playing with new stuff :D

in fact l cashed out some amazon vouchers (£60) and bought myself a Kindle, you see lve been reading quite allot and well lve run out of shelve space in my room and well given that l had started to get low on stuff to read l decided why not create a large digital library.. so thats what lve been doing, managed to collect the few books lve already got but havent read to test out on the kindle.. lm currently reading the first book of the Abhorsen series (Sabriel) tho l am looking forward to getting to read The Revelation Code (one of two series lm still going to collect in book form mainly because l already have the first 10, same with the Soulless spinoff because lve collected all them as well :p )
