Googlemail to become Gmail in UK

I have a "Gmail" account but hardly ever use it, Yahoo! is my main e-mail provider. Anybody care to suggest why I should switch ?

None that I can think of other than curiosity, the ability of have gmail.com instead of a googlemail.com address doesn't seem like much worth swapping for.

Actually gmail.com could always be substituted for googlemail.com, ie to sign in and as an address; they point to the same account. I tried it when I got a googlemail account. Yeah, I know: sad.

heh l knew that as well, hence l gave my email out as a gmail.com, l prefer typing it that way since its less keyboard presses :p lazy l know rofl, but it works.

Can't say I've ever bothered to use the full googlemail, and always gmail, as it's been said, it's easier to type. So, I can't see what's changed?

Since I gave AOL the elbow, it seems to be the best option of webmail for me. Plus when I made a gmail account Snotmail (hotmail) were only offering a measly 2mbs of space, which was as much use as rat droppings in y'porridge.

2meg is useless these days with all the spam about.. after all most companies take the spam folder as part of your allotted space.

I keep trying to convince my brother to get off Snotmail but his understanding of IT is similar to 'Hammy' my autistic hamster. :hrmph:

He couldn't get Gmail to work for some unimaginable reason?

might be java related, worth downloading the latest JRE as the system relies heavily on ajax tho you can change the system to use the html version only but even minor aspects of composing use ajax but l dont think it would cause a problem without it.

I think he would imagine Ajax as something to do with Cillit Bang or similar, as he's in sales. :o

How long ago was that? Hotmail have been offering at least a few hundred megabytes for quite a while now. I remember switching to Gmail over their 'huge' 1GB storage space in 2005 or so, back when it was still invite-only and somewhat exclusive.

In my opinion, it's worth changing just for the nicer interface and simplicity. If you've got a Gmail account you'll be linked in on every other Google-owned website, which makes managing your accounts much more simple.

Can't remember exactly, but somewhere between 2000 and 2004 I think? I've had the Hotmail account since '99, when they gave everyone then 30mbs, until all new accounts after, were 2mbs, but I stopped using their mail very early. It was useless for sending any larger files, particularly to those that were ignorant of their limits, as you can imagine.

Many people didn't realise, if they didn't empty their spam, etc., it bounced everything. But educating some, was like convincing Bernard Matthews turkeys that Christmas isn't as exciting as it seems. :crap:
