Grandstream 812 not ringing phone

My number finally ported, so I set my Grandstream 812 up. I was in a rush, so only tested it quickly, and it appeared to work. The issue is the phone it is connected doesn't ring for incoming calls. Other than that I think it works. I'm not sure if you can answer a none ringing call, but you can phone out ok. This is a different phone to the one I tested it with.

I'm going to take my test phone in tomorrow, but before I start messing about can anyone help with what might be the problem? I did read about turning off ALG SIP in router, but this is already done.

Apologies if this is too obvious an answer, but the 812 will provide a two-wire output from its FXS ports and the traditional British set-up required a ringing voltage on a separate wire, so some (mostly older) phones won't ring if connected directly to the 812. Have you either connected a phone that doesn't need a separate ringing voltage, or an RJ11-to-BT adapter with a ringing capacitor between the 812 and the phone?

Does the ATA show a log of the last calls, does the ATA think the call is ringing? Or the ATA doesn't even receive the call.

If it isn't a ring voltage issue between the ATA and the phone you plug in I would then be looking at NAT issues. So SIP ALG settings on the router and Keep-alive settings on the ATA (I try to set them to 19 or 29 seconds for SIP OPTIONS or NOTIFY.)

Which ISP, router and SIP provider are you using?

I posted another thread about this issue. I was using it on a 4G router with a lebara sim at home. I took it to work and tried on a normal router and it was fine. I also tried it on a 4G router with a three sim and it was fine, or at least as far as I recall it was. The line is with A&A.

It has been a couple of weeks since and I have been waiting for a number to port, which also means my normal BB connection has now gone, so I've only got the 4G. Now it's showing the same behaviour as at home. I can call out but it doesn't receive calls. If I make a call and quickly try to call back in it will ring, so I'm guessing it's not a voltage issue.

Since I tested it at work I reset the grandstream, so I'm wondering if I had it set up in a way that would work with three. I've put the stun server back but it hasn't helped. I will have to try the keep alive settings etc. again. The grandstream is plugged into a unmanaged network switch. I also tried it direct to the router and this didn't help.

I'm also wondering if I got something wrong when testing and it doesn't actually work with three 4G, but I'm fairly sure I managed to leave it for 10-15 minutes and then make a call inwards.

I have set a mobile phone up with groundwire for now. I'm actually wondering whether to bin off the grandstream and just stick with this.

Most likely, the problem is due to CGNAT on Lebara. When using Three with the 3internet APN, you get a public IP address and VoIP should work without any issues. I have been using VoIP (from A&A) on 4G since the beginning of the year without any issues.

Yes. I couldn't get it to work properly on lebara. The problem now is I'm having the same issue with three. I did test it with three and thought it would work, but now I have set it up it's doing the same thing as at home on lebara, where it works phoning in for a very short period after phoning out, but after a short period you can't phone in anymore. Both are on a TP link MR600 router.

Can you help with any setting I can use to get it working with three? Hopefully I'm just missing a simple setting somewhere.

That really sounds like a keepalive issue.
You've enabled keepalive and set it to something short like 19seconds?

In some ATAs/VoIP phones there's the keepalive method drop down but _also_ a keepalive yes/no elsewhere which also needs turning on. Watch out for that.

I don't have the MR600 but going by what is shown on the TP-Link website: in the router web UI, click "Internet" on the left, and "basic" on the top. in the box "APN" put "3internet", then "Save".
Also check the setting for PDP Type, set it to IPv4 (I had problems with IPv4 & IPv6 in the past).
Hope that helps

Thanks. I was in work today so put your settings into the router and set the grandstream up again. Fingers crossed it appears to have worked.

The previous apn was "three.co.uk". I didn't choose this, it was automatically set by the router. What's interesting is that I posted in another thread about my hikconnect app being slow to connect to my hikvision cameras since moving to 4G BB. This appears to be faster with the new apn?

Out of interest what is the difference between "three.co.uk" and "3internet"?

Another oddity was that after getting the grandstream working the mobile I had set up with groundwire stopped working. I just uninstalled and reinstalled the app and it started working again. I think the app is a bit glitchy as it's an old galaxy s7. My s23 works much better with the groundwire app and that carried on working fine.

three.co.uk hands out private IP addresses, so there is CGNAT involved in the network, while with 3internet the router gets a public IP address. VoIP doesn't work (reliably) behind CGNAT.

Thanks. That's interesting to know. Is there an apn for lebara like this? Is there a list somewhere of various provider apn and their specifications?
