H112 - 370 (CPE Pro) vs H122 - 373 (CPE Pro 2) on Three 5G

Hi experts,
I recently took the plunge to buy a CPE Pro 2 from Amazon (Efones). This was to replace my CPE Pro that is locked to Three.

After a number of months smooth service, my CPE Pro and 5G service with Three has started becoming a little unpredictable. I had a text a number of weeks ago from 3, to advise there was some work happening on my local mast, and there may be some service interruptions. Interestingly, also on my VF mobile contract, I got the same message. So assume they share the same mast!? To note I never had VF 5G signal at home at this point, only 4G. After works completed, VF continued to send the odd message over the next few weeks letting me know of further works with apologies. 3 sent no further updates. We did get the odd time of things going slow and complete outage, but it wasn't that bad. I also noted there were some significant ground works happening locally to me with Instalcom, may have no connection. But seems like coincidence.

Anyway, since all these works have completed. I have gained a new, but not very speedy VF 5G signal to my mobile. Though my 3 signal to my CPE Pro seems to have gone unpredictably unstable. It suddenly can lose up speed, or be seriously laggy. Though then the next minute be great again!?

I am connected to the old Relish mast that I believe (reading what you guys post) is connected via microwave array. So know the backhaul is going to be poo. Though I don't get the sudden change from being stable to not being reliable.

I bought the CPE Pro 2 to see if this improved my connection and to also test my VF sim. Firstly the VF sim seems to be very laggy in comparison to 3 signal (10's of ms verses 100's of ms!) which isn't what I'm looking for obviously. Though am aware that VF have just got planning for a new 5G tower locally, so must still be rolling out?

With the 3 sim in the new CPE Pro 2. There was a speed improvement of about 15/20%, down & up. Which was great. I know where i can get the best signal in the house and it always rates at 90 (5G) & 80 (4G) on the inbuilt signal checker. Even though I don't have a clear line of sight. Though for some reason the new Pro 2 seems to lock up every 24hrs or less? Also seems to be much buggier! The firmware is up to date. Is this a know issue with 3 Sims does anyone know? I am ready to send this blasted thing back!

Cheers in advance and sorry for the essay :)

Nothing wrong with microwave links, in fact they can be faster than fibre optics. However, they are also affected by humidity in the air / weather. I would imagine it's probably just coincidence that VF brought in 5G and your three started acting up. Three probably has a problem.

Have you taken signal measurements (like SINR) before and after ? That would help determine if there is more noise in the area.

Funny you say about the three maintenance, I too got a text on Monday about maintenance and it's been all over the place in terms of speed but today seems to be back to normal. Not sure what they were doing as the mast is visible from our house and I haven't seen any people working on it.

Haven't had any issues with my CPE Pro 2 but I do often get 4G instead of 5G, not sure what causes that.

Thanks! I didn't think they shared a mast either, though I got forewarning of works on the same day which seemed odd. But guess a chance of coincidence.

I'm really not that technically minded, so things like taking signal readings before and after don't really occur to me. Current readings on CPE Pro are:

5G RSRQ -10dB
5G RSRP - 91dB
5G SINR - 8dB

Not sure if good or bad? Though believe my signal is good.

The SINR isn't good , no.

Its the signal to noise ratio.
Perhaps this will help. although it's for LTE but your SINR would not be great.

Also signal level isn't a good indication of what speed you will get.

Have you tried repositioning the router? Would suggest trying that and looking at the figures. There are apps like huactl that can do it on your phone if you like.

Kinda not surprised as I don't have line of sight with mast! Thanks for the tip on the app, sorry probably an obvious question but the user is admin on this app, correct? Don't seem to be able to get it to connect 😕

Yeah the login is usually admin. If you haven't change it, then the password is the one printed on the label on the base of the CPE. Otherwise it will be whatever you changed it to.
