Harvesting drivers

I want to backup various drivers I have on some systems.

In some cases, I cannot find them on the web.

So, in device manager I select the device (say a raid device) and right click. Choose 'properties' and then click on the driver tab.

Then click on the 'Driver details' button.

Now, this tells me where it is (generally in the windows\system32\drivers folder) and what the driver file name is.

My question, is that if I back that file up to a CD or memory stick, will I be able to use it in future. For a fresh installation?

Or would some devices need more than that, as some have large install files?

Thanks Mel. I will look at that, but ideally I dont want software, as I have a lot of machines to do, and dont want to install software on each.

driveragent.com will scan your system and tell you which drivers want renewing .They will renew them at a price. once you know which ones best go to the manufacturers/softwarewriters website to renew

Personally I cant see why your method wouldn't work. Alternatively you could copy the entire System32 folder, if you have the space, and let any new installation search for any drivers it needs from that (it sounds too simple, so that probably wont work  ).

Hmm. My method only gets the sys files, not the inf files. The inf files are in another folder, but there is no way of indentifying them.

Looks like the best way is the app Mel gave a link to.
