Headphone output lead

Dont know much about sound stuff. Is it possible to get a connector lead that would allow me to play music from my npod to something like a car stereo? Basically a headphone to input (if thats the right term) connection.

If so does anyone have a link?

Cheers.

Depends what you're inputting to really.

You can get special adapters that "pretend" to be cassette tapes, but plug into a headphone output of a CD/Minidisc/other player, to allow you to play through a car's speakers.

There are other methods, if what you're connecting to has a "line input", then you can connect anything with a "line output" to it (headphones use the same electrical characteristics as a line out, so can be used interchangably)

As said, if the car stereo has a line input then you can string a lead from the ipod headphone socket to that, you may have to adjust the volume control on the ipod to avoid distortion.
Most likely you will need a 2.5mm stereo jack to 2.5mm stereo jack lead available from most electrical stores that stock radios etc.

Ahh cheers, thats all I gotta look for, a 2.5mm stereo jack?

By the way, its an Npod, I wouldnt touch an Ipod, ripoffs!

When connecting audio devices, always try to use the line in/line out facilities. The signals derived from these outputs are a standard 1v P-P and line in inputs are designed around this signal.

Headphone outputs can be used but keep the volume control at minimum and slowly turn it up until you reach an undistorted output at an aceptable level of volume.
The circuits surrounding the headphone output may "shape" the signal in some way so be prepared for slightly disappointing results.

Leads are freely available from places like Maplin Electronics etc. If you have an old "video copying kit" you may find that you already have suitable leads.

Thanks, for the info. The Npod doesnt have a line out sadly, tho it does have a line in, not quite sure why yet though. It does have an inbuilt mic, for voice recording (yet another reason why its better than the Ipod), so maybe its something to do with that...?

In that case it's likely that you'll need a stereo jack to two phono lead:
