Help-ADSL connection sharing

Can anyone help?

I now have an ADSL connection and I simply want to share this between a PC & laptop. I want to be able to use the connection either at the same time or with the other computer switched off. Both have ethernet connections, currently unused.

Wired is fine as they are not far apart. Above all I want a simple and easy to set up arrangement which is not going to be too costly!

Any help with how to go about this & the kit I need?

Thanks

You need a router with a modem built in and with a minimum of 2 ethernet port (most are like than anyway).

You will need to set up the router to use the internet connection settings you should already have (usually you set up a router by navigating to it's web-page).

Get a couple of standard network cables (usually cat5 and available from PC world assuming you can't nick them from work).

You then need to set both PC's to use the router as their Internet gateway....and that's it. Most routers come with reasonable instructions to do all of this anyway, since they are becoming more and more popular at home as well as a work.

The other alternative is to set up Internet Connection Sharing on one PC and connect the second using a crossover cable.

The downside is that you need the connected PC switched on to use the web with the other. The upside is it is a lot cheaper.
