Help in understanding EE not-spot, and cellmapper information

Good evening,

This is my first post here, so apologies if I get anything wrong. I'm with EE in outer SE London, and inside my house is a black-spot downstairs (no signal at all). It's a terraced house 2 bedroom built in the 1950s so every chance the materials it was built with play a part in the signal issues.

Out of curiosity I've been using NetMonster/Cellmapper to see where nearest masts are to me, but one oddity I've noticed is both are reporting a tower at exactly my address that was "First seen" in 2018 (a good 4 years before I've moved into my house). Is this a quirk of using wifi-calling on my phone or something else? I'm pretty sure if I had a mast at my address I'd know...

When looking at these towers on the map within CellMapper are they red or green?

If they are red it just means a CellMapper user hasn't located the correct location of the mast and the site is instead guessing the location based on the data points that have been uploaded in the past. If you have been running CellMapper on your device and a lot of the points have been uploaded by you recently it'll probably trick the system into thinking the mast is near your house when it could in fact be miles away.

Thanks for the reply @Andy199

Those towers are indeed red. I think what threw me off is that it was showing as first seen in 2018, when I've not been here that long, or used cellmapper either.

I guess if someone else had been using cellmapper around here before me that could be it.

Just been looking at your area, I've located some of the EE towers nearest to you. It looks like your area is quite poor for indoor EE coverage however Vodafone or 3 may be better. If possible you could pick up some sim cards and just test the signal levels in your house if you are looking to switch to a different network to ensure a better signal at home, if not it may just be the case of finding the best room for EE's signal and waiting for them to do some upgrades.

Funny you mention that, I've recently picked up a Lebara sim (for vodafone) and have tried a smarty sim as well. I don't have any black spots for Vodafone and usable 4g. I get poorer speeds with Smarty but no black spots, I suppose due to EE & Three sharing masts.

I'm unfortunately stuck on a contract with EE for a while longer, but I've been keen to investigate my options in the meantime so I can switch in the future.

I have tried raising the coverage issues in the past with them, but no luck. I'm not holding out much hope for any noteworthy upgrades in my area either.

EE have Wi-Fi calling, why don't you use it?
