Help needed, with wire tap issue.

Hi all.
I recently contacted by about a smart hub problem. The support noticed that I had a wire tap issue that had been picked up. I am aware that a few years ago bt (at my request) bt moved my master socket from the hall into the lounge. The original location in the hall had an extension upstairs, that was simply tapped back to the line. The socket upstairs is not useable since as it cuts internet off. So we moved to wireless pair of phones and when we receive a call. So we don't use the socket. Get about 63mb of the line so never felt it was an issue. BT say it's causing echos on the line and internet would be faster if it was removed. Say an an engineer would cost about 85 quid or I could get an independent to do it cheaper.
I've looked at the wiring and it doesn't make any sense. Is it possible an expert could talk me through what to do? Or is it best waiting until lock down is over

I’d suggest you wait as these lines are powered and you could get a mild shock playing with them.
Its not difficult though - I would assume the wire coming in from the bottom is the BT one and the two others are going off to other extensions? You’d have to make sure but it could be as simple as clipping the other two and wiring your master socket in with the correct main cable.
It’s a 5-10 minute job for a professional you might have better luck finding a local telco engineer when it’s all over.

If it's causing problems on the line and the work was done by BT / Openreach then I would have thought it is their responsibility to resolve. But that's my idealic self talking and I know that in this case it may be better to hire a local telecoms engineer to do a quick fix, albeit once COVID-19 is less of a problem.
