Have you re-booted your PC and ADSL modem/router ?? this often clears any problems.
How do you know if you are connected if nothing is loading?? does email work OK?? its just my ADSL connection went down for most of Tuesday and Wednesday, it said it was connecting but it was being cut off withing a fraction of a second.

Proxy settings

With Internet explorer open ,from the menu at the top of the screen
E.G. File Edit View etc select Tools >then > Internet Options >then from the tabs at the top of the Box that appears select Connections.

from here it depends on your method of connection

ADSL Router
If you are connecting to your broadband via a router then you will need to select LAN Settings found near to the bottom of the Connections area, in the LAN settings area, you are looking for a tick in the box under the heading Proxy Server and next to Use a Proxy server, if this is ticked and something is set in the box labelled ADDRESS and PORT, remove the tick and click OK and try Internet explorer again..

ADSL MODEM
If you are connecting via an ADSL/Broadband modem then you will need to select your connection from the box with the heading Dial-up and virtual private network settings, Once your connection has been highlighted select the Settings button found to the right ,here you will be looking for a tick in the box under the heading Proxy server ,remove the tick , click ok and try Internet explorer again.

You might also click on File and check that WORK OFFLINE from the drop down menu doesn't have a tick by it.

Having written all this doesn't the Opera browser use Internet Explorers settings ?

We hope this is of help regards Naims.co.uk

I have opera 8 and it doesnt use ie settings but it does have connection settings and can block sights from opening

just go to tools

preferances

advanced
click proxy servers

remove any check mark that is checked

Your dns settings inn windows could have changed if you have a firewall

go to start go to network connections

right click on the icon

go to properties go to general

left click internet protocol [tcp/ip]

click properties just below

put a mark in obtain ip address automaticly

click alt configuration
put a mark in

automatic private ip address

this will set your windows os to work without a proxy

not had chance to try it yet but also does the same on ordinary dail up modem too

You don't happen to be using ZoneAlarm do you? Since the last update I've been having an occasional problem with ZA changing the Program Control setting for Internet Explorer to block all access all by itself - maybe it thinks IE is too unsafe
