Help with Max Problem

Hi Guys and Girls,

Was hopeing someone could help me out here wiht a ADSL Max problem i am having , bascially iam around the corner form my exchange but experiancing realy crap soeed of between 1 meg and 3 meg when i sould be getting closer to 6-8 meg , my stats are below the ISP which is nildram is say they doubt BT will do anything about it,

relative capacity occupation: 93%
noise margin downstream: 10.5 db
output power upstream: 0.0 dbm
Upstream Speed: 448 kbps
Downstream Speed: 8128 kbps

Any ideas of what i can do at my end tried plugging directly in to the master bt socket no change and also tired changing my filter with no change....

any takers ?

If Nildram are saying BT will do nothing its BS... If nildram are not going to refer it to BT then tell them you will move to another ISP to get it sorted others have had similar issues raised with BT and had them sorted.

Ask Nildram what is your BSR rate set by BT

Hi Kits,

Thanks for getting back to me ,

Nildram says that BT had not set it. hmmmmm i think , they say that as BT has set the fault level at 400 k thats why they doubt they will do anything about it, basically what i can see (and from discussion with nildram) it apears to be a problem with the noise level 10-11 .....

A noise level of 10DB is just fine.

Leave the router/modem connected for at least ten days in a row (240 hours) and your BSR should move up to around 7 MBs.

That is unless Nildram have capped it for some reason. A lot of the crappier ISP's always blame BT and dont do anything themselves, because they dont know what they are doing.

Get them to do a one shot check for a EU performance problem and ask if it says your dslam and BRAS access speeds are consistant.

A noise level of 10-11 db is perfectly good for any kind of BB. My router currently shows 9db and doesn't cause problems for me. I've even seen it working as low as 2.5db!!

BT likes to tell everyone that 10db is the minimum for a stable connection - but that's primarily so they can have an easy life. Truth is DSL will work at far lower values. But by drawing lines at (relatively) arbitrary thresholds, BT avoid having their engineers running around actually doing things. It basically translates to an economic decision, rather than a truly technical one.

I know of a DSL service that works at 0-1db perfectly fine and never dropped but it does have a floating sync rate (read as the sync speeds will change while you are still connected)

Hi All

Just to share a update with you..

Been onto nildram again today and asked about the BRAS profile arghhhhh can you belive it has not even been set yet although it is three weeks on since my conversion day, also for soem strange reason the sync rate they have is 2 meg lower than what my router is reporting at , currently they are reporting me being sycned at just over 6 meg yet the router stats are the same for me as above and i have constantly been synced at 8128, mabye it is me but it is so frustrating when you know they are reading from a script and not listening to your concerns and trying to fob you of as if you a 6 year child........

Looks like the sarger will continue they say there going to contact bt to get the BRAS set up and look at the sync issue...

BBMAX was a nightmare for me too.. however some considerable weeks after its now sorted and have a happy 6mb constant download speed most times of day

Hi a Slight update, spoke to nildram tonight, BRAS rate has been set to 5696 and fault threshold at 3987..although god know where they got the first figure fram the router has contantly been sync at 8128 since conversion 3 weeks ago.

Nildram say nothing more they can do.

one p*issed of user.

Thats not the BRAS profile that is the MSR 5696 (maximum stable line rate) and the FTR (fault theshold rate) and the BRAS profile they can not see and without running that test for a EU performance problem they will not find out if it is all set right or not.

The BRAS works of your lowest sync rate over 3 days and sets it to that, it was a trick question the the ISP as they can not tell you your BRAS profile they have to run a test to see if it alines right with the sync speed you are connected at moment if it isnt then they can log a fault on it.

Spell it out to them:

W O O S H..................O N E S H O T.........E U....P E R F O R M A N C E......P R O B L E M

Its not the person on the end of the phones problem but the management for not having the person trained.

That is the test they need to run, I have been running that test on my own line which is causing me grief.

Hi all update time,

Still no real joy, in fact things are getting worse less than 2 meg speeds this evening , rang again asked for the Woosh test and all it came back was as inconclusive the tech guy said, they will send it back to BT but are nto hopeful as bt said they have run tests and not found anything wrong.

so basically no progress and in fact worst conection.

hmmmmm

So woosh came back inconlusive, so what! It does that nearly all the time, that is why we never totally rely on it.

Did it state the current stable rate and the ftr when he did the test?

What have they asked you to troubleshoot?

I did think Nildram would be better than this its always been a ISP I might of considered going to if i was to ever leave who I was with now.

One option that is open to you is to put me as a named contact so I can kick their behind but with steal toecaps and the knoledge to know if they are talkin out the backside.

Hi all,

Had a call back from Nildram today (i was out at the time) they stated that BT have run further tests and can still not find an issue, although since last week something else strange has started to happen, mt download noise margin start to decrease on a daily basis from the current 10.5-12 down to 2.5 strange though as soon as i reset the adsl line via the router the noise margin stabilises for a couple of hours, no particular time of the day ect does this occurs....not sure if this is related to anything, download speeds are about 3.5-4 meg today, but again not stable, i ve completed some further checks and literally 3 streets away from the connected exchange and sync rate rock steady and has not changed.
