Help with Sercomm lte2122gr

Hi Guys,
Need help urgently lol, I have a three Sercomm lte2122gr router and have just purchased a Poynting xpol2 V3 external antenna how do I get my router to use the external antenna I can't see an option in the router page. It's definitely not recognising them. I am still in the period where I can send this router back so if I cant connect it will have to look at another router option(any recommends if so), or can the 2122 do it?
Cheers in advance, really doing my head in, nothing is ever easy! Lol

It should sense the external antenna automatically. Is there no difference in signal in the UI when you connect the external ones?

Also, we know there are several antennas in this router, there are a couple of big threads on it in the forum, I forgot how many would need to be connected.

Also, while at it, I know it's extra question, but do you need an antenna, what is your signal info without one?

Hi, thanks for fast reply, not noticing any difference at all with the external antenna connected vs not connected. I believe I need an external antenna as speed tests all over the place and not stable at all. Not sure what to do, is there another comparible router I could get that has the options to choose the external antennas. I did read the modding thread about the 2122 does the advanced menu show the antenna settings? Cheers

Yeah, your SNR is not great.
I am not aware of any other way of doing it, except opening it up and connecting the antenna directly. Others may be able to shed more light. Perhaps @dazmatic .

Hmm is opening it up and connecting them directly easy to do? Otherwise I could send the router back I purchased it off Amazon so have until the 27th to send it back, do you have a router you could recommend that would work well with my external antenna 2x2 mimo thats good for 4g+. Cheers mate 👍

That sounds like a good option, I see it has 4 internal antenna, I take it I can just connect the 2 antenna from the poynting to two of the connectors and leave the other 2 and just switch it's external/internal antenna switch to external and it will work? Lol sorry for the basic questions new to researching this stuff, but your saying this one will work, as if so will probably get it. Thanks again.

That's alright, they are good questions.
I believe you can just switch that button to use the external antenna, but I think it still needs something plugged in the other 2 ts9 sockets as RF could still be sent there and if there's no way to dissipate it then it might start frying some circuits. At the very least put some of those bunny ears or whatever they are called antennas that come with it.
I think you need to connect sockets 1 and 3 if you only have 2 cables, at least this is what I am remembering from various ports. @dazmatic can confirm.

Be warned, those ts9 sockets are fragile, if you antenna has sma connectors, then buy some of those "ts9 to sma" pigtails and try not to put pressure on the router sockets.

Sounds good, yeah the poynting has sma so will need the ts9 connectors 👍
Thanks again for your help much appreciated sir 😁👍

LTE2122 rear connectors are switches - screw in the SMA connectors, it breaks the internal antenna connection and makes the external connection at the same time.

NR5103E ports 1 and 3 are main ports for 4G & 5G - Port 1 (top) is primary.

If you're already at 87dBm, chances are external antennas won't make difference alone, not without looking at other things such as bands.

Your 87dBm is most likely B20 looking at the noise (B20 is everywhere and travels far = noise) so your best bet might be to force the router on to a different band. the LTE2122 as it stands cannot do that by itself.

Thanks for the reply, ok so if I'm reading in-between the lines your saying send the external antenna back and the router and get a different router that will allow band locking, yes? I do get good speeds with just the router but it just isn't stable probably because it's switching bands?? Will the router Lucian recommended allow band locking? Thanks

@Trillion2k The Zyxel I linked can do band locking and it would enable you to lock on other bands than 20.
Imho you should return the Sercom and the antenna and give that Zyxel a try.
Alternatively @JitteryPinger is selling a ZTE MC7010 external router which can also band lock, it may be a better fit since you can install it outside where the signal is better and there is no coax loss (just an ethernet cable for network and power).

Ok, I'm going to send them both back and get the zyxel, you sir are a legend 👍 ps would rather the router inside less faffing about with drilling holes in the wall! But thanks for the suggestion 👍
Thanks again much appreciated and will update when I get it up and running 😁

Good luck.

PS: The MC7010's ethernet cable is flat, you can close the window on it, but yeah, try the Zyxel first, see how it goes.
