A question primarily for Hey Broadband customers in the Horsham area, but also interested to hear from other Hey Broadband customers.
I have been with Hey Broadband from their early days, close to 20 months now. To be fair it has been excellent until recently, sure there were the occasional issues by put Hey Broadband and F&W were always quick to address them.
That was until about 4 weeks ago when I started experiencing sluggish browsing and occasionally my Sky box would report that there is no internet.
I did some speed tests and they were all excellent 900+ Mbps - I have the 1000 Mbps service - that really threw me.
And then I noticed that the test server was Hey Broadband Horsham, so I was effectively testing the direct fibre connection between my house and the local HB data centre. Useful test to show that the fibre is in good shape but that is not testing internet speed.
So I selected other servers and I was shocked.
From the outset, let me make it clear that I wasn’t expecting to get 1000 Mbps and knew that it would be higher in off-peak times and lower in peak-times but I wasn’t prepared for just how low.
I have down regular testing using different test servers throughout the day and have found that at peak time (7PM to 10PM weekdays) I am getting internet download speeds between 2 Mbps and 50 Mbps. At it’s lowest my Sky box declares that there is no internet connection and shuts off on-demand services. As for online gaming, I play World of Tanks occasionally, normally I get single figure millisecond latency but at peak times I’m now seeing in-game pings of 1000 mS.
Anyone else seeing this. My fear is that with the recent promotions offering 1000 Mbps symmetric fibre service for £29 per month advertised and as low as £25 per month discounted by door to door salesmen that they have taken on more customers than the infrastructure can support.
Interested to hear from any other Horsham Hey Broadband customers.
