HomePhone v Wanadoo

I'm with Wanadoo (broadband and have been for over 12 months) and BT and I want to change to HomePhone from the Post Office.

HomePhone say I can change and keep Wanadoo broadband.

Wanadoo say I can't change and must remain with BT.

Any comments please on this apparent impasse?

From the Post Office Website:

Q) What happens to my broadband or internet connection?
A) All internet and broadband services you that you have with your existing provider can be used with your new Post Office™ HomePhone. You will continue to be billed separately for any broadband or internet subscription services.

From the Wanadoo website Broadband FAQs:
http://www.wanadoo.co.uk/time/faqs/bb_faqs.htm

Q) Do I need a home phone line?
A) Yes. This can be provided by BT or other phone providers such as TalkTalk, One.Tel and Phones4U etc. You can't use Wanadoo Broadband if you're a cable customer with Telewest or NTL, or a residential customer of Kingston Communications in Hull.

I see no reason why 'HomePhone' would not be included in Wanadoo's example of 'other phone providers'

Thanks very much.

So, it seems Wanadoo are in error.

The reply to the email query I made is appended:

Dear John,

In order to benefit from Wanadoo broadband you would require a BT
telephone line.

Kindest Regards,

Mike

Update nine months later.

Went with Home Phone and continued with broadband from Wanadoo now Orange.

Home Phone fine and noticably cheaper.

Now that Orange have taken over Wanadoo the ISP service, particularly in the last couple of months or so, has got worse with several disconnections per day and obviously slower.

Asked Orange for MAC code. Operator, apparently in the UK, made hard-hearted attempt to get me to sign for alternative Orange service and said being on Home Phone was the problem. But no problems during first six months of Home Phone/Wanadoo service.

Also Orange say they will automatically upgrade when phone line allows. Just found out my line allows up to 5MB and has done for a while. But they never upgraded.

MAC should be with me in 48 hours - we will see.

Will keep you posted.
