'HOSTONCE' - are they going bust?

Sorry to be sensational but I am sure I am not the only client of these people to have had considerable problems lately.

They had (allegedly) a massive spamming attack on their servers in September and since that time they have continually had problems giving unbroken service.

Reports on their support pages receive a 'holding' response and then about 3 days later they send a message that all is well now. Alternatively they tell users that they have their connection settings wrong !

Today (29th Nov) their webmail has not always been accessible, and then they are not posting incoming mails owed for the past 2-3 days. I have had correspondents contact me complaining that mails have been bounced back to them. I have sent test messages from my AOL account to various of my hostonce based addresses and they too have been bounced back by hostonce. The latest report showing that the host is unknown.

To top it all the main Hostonce webpage has been unavailable and thus access to their support pages - to view their latest excuses and insults ;o)

So what do others think - are they bust?

Perhaps more important, how can I move my very modest small domain to another hosting service and which do you experts out there recommend.

TIA

Mish

Dreamhost are good.....
They are an american company (So you will need a CC) but they are very cheap and very reliable.

As to moving the domain name.....Its not all that easy....
If the domain is yours (You are one of the points of contact) then the host you move to may be able to do it for you...
(Otherwise you may need to talk to someone like internic...And prove you are the original owner)

If the domain was provided for you by a company as an incentive to move to them then its a WHOLE lot harder...If not impossible....

Thanks gents, perhaps I should explain.

After 'losing' email addresses nearly five years ago with providers going bust or changing names, I was advised by a friend to get my own domain. He had done this and signed-up with Hostonce.

So I did the same, I just wanted security for email addresses that would never change, and since that time I have put up a modest webpage. But its mail addresses that never change that are essential as I use them for my work which is freelancing for international organisations mostly based abroad. The only problem is that if they have a mail bounced back then they drop you off their database, and now this is happening with the shenanigans at Hostonce.

Does anyone have comments on their recent service from Hostonce by the way?

Thanks again.

Mish
