Folks there is currently a Web Exclusive Business data only SIM for unlimited data for £5 ex VAT. (£6 Inclusive)

Remember folks this is data only.

24 month contract.

Quite cheap me thinks, you'll have the April rises but still a good price. 😊

After clicking buy now, click on see all plans, it's right at the bottom

(It says 12 months on the graphic, but it is definitely 24 months.)

How is this profitable for them in any way? That said for a second SIM in a device and/or in a mobile router it was too good to pass on so I’ve ordered one.

In Typical 3 fashion my order got stuck, it needed me to verify that my address was correct via a payment card but it wouldn’t let me.

Spoke to the call centre who said this wasn’t available and I had to place a new order for 60GB at £15 or £23 for unlimited which is higher than the prices on the business site!

As usual dealing with them was hard work, eventually one of the Glasgow team pushed it through for me.

Yeah, the site does say "web exclusive", intimating you probably would have a hard time getting the offer over the phone.

They are making money, because Scancom also sells this for £7 a month and they are probably making a profit. In fact getting the Scancom might be better in the long term as you dont have any yearly price increases. The downside is you have to pay in advance.

Another difference with the Scancom deal is it has a FUP of 850GB, while three is truly unlimited.

850GB is usually way more than enough for anyone, but maybe worth noting should you wish to download the whole internet.

Business price promise means the price doesn't change throughout the length of the contract. My £6 is still £6 even though I've only got 5mth left of the 2yr ctract.

At some point the call handler was adamant that the order, even a new one placed online with the tariff couldn’t be processed because the tariff is not available.

I think that might be an old promise, My new lines states that the SIM will go up by 4.5%

“Each April, the Plan's Monthly Charge will increase by 4.5% (2023 increase waived)”

ah ok, as i said mine has the price promise thing so presumed they still did it.

Airtime is almost pure profit with tiny overheads to a mobile network. How much data they give to users is irrelevant to how profitable it is. They just make less profit when they offer airtime contracts with huge amounts of data. Offering these data only SIMs is a way of inducing demand and opening the door to more revenue. Per subscriber this is £144 of guaranteed revenue over a 2 year contract sign up 1000 people who wouldn’t have normally have signed up and they’ve made £144,000 of extra revenue with small overheads (it’s not all going to be profit but the vast majority of it will be).

However with loads of people using the resource it does put a heavier load on the networks which causes customer dissatisfaction and people to leave at the end of their contract terms. It’s a vicious cycle with Three. They churn customers because they oversold unlimited data plans at small prices and overloaded their networks, then they put their prices up when they lose their customers only to find that they then need to drop their prices again because they’re losing revenue through retentions.

Three aren’t stupid. They know what they’re doing. They wouldn’t sell these plans if they didn’t think they were profitable. They are profitable but with smaller margins.

The same reason that Lyca can sell £3.99 a month 3GB data tariffs at £0.99 for 3 months. The running costs are in their pennies per customer.

Whether or not a business makes a profit depends on the total revenue and the total cost of obtaining that revenue.

Each individual customer can add to revenue but it makes no sense at that step of the calculation to assert that customer adds to profit as it's completely unknown at that stage whether the business will make any profit at all, or might make a loss due to revenue being insufficient to pay for all the costs to obtain that revenue.

Has anyone 'Non Business' gotten this and used it at home for 5G BB access?
