keep an eye on bank statements tho, AOLs promises of free months seem to lack the free months most of the time... altho when l was with them l couldnt fault the uptime, l wouldnt have moved if they had not introduced a hidded 60GB cap
Nothing much has changed with Aohwell suckport then! I'm glad I left before AOL could unbundle my line as I suspect I'd have ended up at some point being downgraded by AOL to 512kbps yet again as the BT checker which AOL support seem to place so much faith in is overly pessimistic about my line when I'm not on an IPStream product.
I'am a newbie to adsl but after reading a number of forums I did decide to start with a filter at the master socket and then use a wireless adsl modem so I could have the modem as close to where the line enters the house and the rest of my house wiring extensions are the far side of the filter. I bought mine from adslnation and thought the small investment of less than £15 well worth it. Sounds like your modem is on an extension under the carpet etc with lots of oppertunity for the high freq adsl signals to have relections from all the other extension wiring in the house. I come from old days of thin coax 10base2 networking when reflections and correct termination was paramount to getting the network segment working so was happy to accept the suggestion of terminating the adsl signal as soon as possible ie at the BT master socket as BT themselves used to do when an engineer came and fitted adsl a few years back.
Only 2.5km from exchange so not too much a problem for me.
