How is MadAsAFish for a broadband ISP?

Hi,

I'm considering joining madasafish for a 1Mb ADSL connection when I am finally finished with Central Barf...'scuse me...I mean Central Point :p on December 18.

I'm looking for any reports from present and past users of this ISP to give some comments please (good or bad, but good preferably ;) ).

Would I be madasafish for joining this ISP? or would I be fishfingers for not joining?

Thanks for your help and views.

Well, as nobody has replied, I can only assume that no news is good news, and will probably sign up to madasafish for a 1Mb connection in the near future.
However, as there have been no positive reports either, I am still shopping around a bit.

1.1 This Agreement will commence on the Commencement Date and will continue for 12 months ("the Minimum Period") unless terminated by you or us in accordance with paragraph 9 below.

I wouldn't recommend a 12 month contract as if the speed is bad you are tied for 12 months. Most ISPs now have 3 month contracts.

9.4 Unless otherwise specified in this Agreement, either you or we may terminate this Agreement on giving not less than 28 days' notice to the other; such notice not to expire before the end of the Minimum Period.

9.5 You may also terminate this Agreement before the end of the Minimum Period on giving at least 28 days' notice. Such termination will be subject to payment of an early termination fee of £80 (inc. VAT).

9.6 Upon termination you agree to cease using the Broadband Services immediately and to pay any monies owing (we will bill unbilled amounts promptly after termination). On termination your right to use the Services ceases immediately.

If you terminate early they wil charge you £80 plus VAT they could then add the months left of the 12 month contract.

IMPO never sign a 12 month contract unless its for cable BB where your modem is free. quotes taken from madasafish T&C please always read them carefully before signing up to any ISP.

Sorry Kits, but I have to disagree.
The customer has the option of ending the service agreement within 12 months in consideration for a termination fee of £80 - full stop.
The T&Cs do not give the supplier the option of charging a termination fee PLUS monies outstanding for the remainder of the 12 month agreement.

Why only mention cable broadband?
There are DSL suppliers who have 12 month contracts and supply free modems plus free connection.

When selecting a supplier on the basis of them offering a shorter term contract, be aware of the possibility of there being a termination fee payable for ending the agreement, even after the term has expired.
ISTR some ISPs promote the fact they offer a 3 month contract, however they stipulate that should the customer end the service within 12 months, a termination fee will be incurred.

I have stuck to Cable as it has less problems than ADSL.

Like ADSL can be affected by xmas lights this has no affect on Cable. A very old T V can take ADSL offline but cable is not affected.

ADSL does not need cable laying to the home as it uses the old telephone line.

If you have never had Cable TV just telephone then they have to pull cable through to give you BB.

Speeds with cable are always around the top making a 12 month contract more viable.

ADSL is more prone to speed issues and most caught in a 12 month contract cannot get out without it costing them money.

Madasafish has only the 12 month contract most others have 3month with the choice of 12month but you have a choice.

and I did say IMPO

I am aware of the 12 month contract.

The 3 main reasons I'm looking at madasafish are:

1. Free connection/activation
2. Free modem (although I have a modem/router already its nice to have something to fall back on ;) )
3. They are IPStream not DataStream

Hi there,

Did you end up going with Madasafish in the end? As I too am now considering them.

Can anyone else vouch for them?

Cheers,

madasafish

I`ve been tempted , but the 12 month commitment is a bit harsh if they turn out to be pants or throttle speeds etc.
Anyone have experience, are they any good?
or is the 12 month contract there because of poor service?
Is there a customer forum for or run by users?

C`mon Fish heads, tell us about them...

:D

as this thread is dated 2005 and noone has answered the original posters I would say we have no members using this ISP

Madasafish

I saw the date.
But thats no reason to not ask again..?

It could be that Madasafish users are very happy ones.
Who knows?

Perhaps, Perhaps, Perhaps....
seems sum happy punters on adslguide.

Either they are the nuts and provide a fantastic service or...?

The happy customer probably kept it quiet, otherwise the unhappy customer will post it how bad the service is. I think no one sign up for this isp (because of 12 months contract and cost you a hell lots of money if cancel within the 1st 12 months)

I glanced at the T&Cs and it looks like the penalty for cancelling early is £55 (new connection or £25 migration) + £39.99 if you had the 'free' 2 port router.

10.4 Unless otherwise specified in this Agreement, either you or we may terminate this Agreement on giving not less than 28 days' notice to the other; such notice not to expire before the end of the Minimum Period.

10.5 If you terminate this Agreement within the first 12 months after the Commencement Date:

(a) you will be subject to payment of £55 (including VAT) if your Broadband Service is a new installation or £25 (including VAT) if we successfully migrated your Broadband Service from another ISP;

(b) you will be subject to payment for any free or subsidised hardware that you ordered from us at the Recommended Retail Price of that hardware at that time you ordered it;

(c) you will be subject to payment for any free promotional months of service you have received at the standard rate at the time you signed up for the service.

Hello!

Madasafish subscriber here, how are they? Well have to say very reliable but expensive and have restrictive caps that may not suit heavy dlers, recently though I have had my connection drop several times and also I have been getting authentication errors/time outs - this could be intermittant though as I am having my service upgraded from 2.2M to 5.5M (free).

The caps dont bother me as I dont do P2P much but I do a bit of dling of Newsgroup binaries occasionally (which are very good).

Call centres are in India (nothing unusual there) but what experience I have had with them are satisfactory.

Don't even think about it... Madasafish that is...

They're the **WORST** broadband provider I have ever encountered (and I am including a couple of Russian Telecoms in my personal repertoire and you can imagine how bad Russian phone lines are...)

First problem: Frequent and inexplicable disconnections. No warning, can be for many hours or a few minutes. However I've never had a single day in the last three months when I was not disconnected less than a dozen times in every 24h period (I was with Virgin previously and never suffered these disconnections, but Madasafish allege it's definitely the line quality, dunno how Virgin managed to cope with the same then...)

Second problem: Dishonesty. They had no power back up system to cut in when their servers **ALL** went down one weekend recently, so they told the customers lies about the reason and blamed it as a problem with "the internet backbone..."

Third problem: Their helplines terminate in Durban (S. Africa) and are manned by totally inept and inexperienced trainees (wanabe MacDonald counter staff...) and whenever there is an outage you can never get a reply!

Fourth problem: They don't answer registered letters sent to their Lodnon head office, they are also forwarded to Africa and the help centre staff are instructed to fob you off instead of Brightview Ltd actually reading a single word of what you wrote to them about...

Need I continue?

Oh, and to add insult to injury... having forced them to cough up a MAC code (regardless of their 12 month contract which they're unable to remotely argue they've honoured...) I am due to be migrated to BT on 7th September but was cut off and left high and dry with no connection all day long on Aug 30th because MAAF wrongfully claimed BT had adopted the ADSL equipment by then... even though I'd paid my subscription up until Septemeber 13th in any event...

After three hours alternately on hold and speaking to them, and after they spoke to BT Wholesale, I finally got hold of the ear of someone who had the authority to reconnect me!

Blerdy terrible! Just dont go there... I assure you I could merrily disembowel the Richard the Third that recommended them to me... it's taken years off my life and turned my hair grey in under three months...

Ditto regards another day long period of no DSL signal on 01 September, MAAF claimed that BT Wholesale had approvisioned the DSLAM equipment early and denied responsibility, but I got on to BT who looked into their claim and categorically denied that was either possible or factual

In any event, after twelve hours of denial of ADSL, much slapping of heads on my part (accompanied by the customary prevarication and whining from Durban Customer Service) they reconnected me at around 3.30pm

Worst ISP I've ever known!

Two days without MAAF and BT have not caused a single disconnection, and that's with the very same router and all other hardware at my end (handy to not have absolutely needed the BT hub and VOIP handset, because they've still not turned up - so a very slow handclap in that respect BT!)

Will be taking action through CISAS against MAAF and their many failures and gross incompetence :D
