how many gigs does the average surfer use in a month

i've noticed more isps are offering broadband with 1 or 2 gig a month for a good price but what i wanted to know before i sign up for one of these is how far will 2 gig go, i download the odd album but nothing too big. thanks

I wouldnt look at other peoples download amounts, that wouldnt help much.

What do you do? Send emails with attachments? Play games much, once everyday or once a month?

Would you be downloading many files?

Personally I think 2 gig is a bit small, if I was going for a capped service I would go for one of the 6gig+ options.

generally i do about 3 hours of surfing a day, no games or anything. i seem to send loads of emails and i download about 5 or 6 albums a month. thanks

In that case you should be fine, but you would probably get close to the limit some months. I think it would still be safer to go with a higher package, say 4+ gig.

And of course, if your going from dialup/isdn to broadband, you will always use more than you think.

You can download a 30 day trial of a download/upload meter here:-

Ive used it for the last couple of weeks and Ive been surprised how little bandwidth Ive used. Similar usage to yours without the album downloads and Im going to be well under 1Gb at the end of the 30 days.

5-6 albums @ what bitrate???
Just remember that a windows update can eat many 100's of megabytes as can program patches plus dont even think about listening to internet radio or streaming NASA TV cos they'll eat up a 2gig cap in a few days.
If you are experiencing BB for the first time I can guarantee you will use a LOT more, you will try everything going and probably reach a 2 gig cap in a day; I was streaming audio, video, downloading film trailers, music, games pictures.
I downloaded 1/2 a gig of mission files for Ghost Recon and some exersise videos for my back last night while listening to RadioIo, reading the latest BOFH on The Register and trawling the net for cheap tyres and properties in Cyprus, I doubt it came to less than 2 gigs for the evening.
