How to get accurate Fiber Optic info?

My exchange (Telford - Wellington) is supposed to be upgraded for fiber optic by this weekend, end of June.

Where can I get accurate information regarding progress, ie has it been completed, and when I can obtain it?
My current ISP says 'It's should be available by July' but can't/won't confirm, and I don't seem to be able to get much info from anywhere else, other than the scheduled date. Any ideas please?

Thanks in advance

The rollout is in phases. Sounds like yours is imminent.

However, it matters not when the exchange is enabled. It's if and when the cabinet you're connected is to be enabled that matters.

Deployment dates shift regularly backwards or forwards.

The best bet is probably to put your phone number into the Availability checker and see what it says. A postcode will give a guide but isn't necessarily accurate because a postcode can be served by more than one cabinet.

If it's coming then the checker will typically say so. That said, if it doesn't offer up any fibre info (either available now, or coming soon) it doesn't mean that you definitely aren't going to get it.

As far as getting some kind of exact date, it depends on many things - Openreach plans but also planning permission and other aspects that are not within the control of Openreach. So it's a bit of a waiting game.

Some have access to BT's rollout information which was leaked and there was a URL doing the rounds which enabled you to have a bit of a sneak look at it - one such URL was http://www.coolwebhome.co.uk/fibre/checker.php but I don't know how up to date it is.

Basically, only Openreach know, which is why your ISP cannot be certain.

Thanks for that Mark2.

Putting in the info to the btwholesale website gave the basic info: "Your cabinet is planned to have WBC FTTC by 30th September 2012. Our test also indicates that your line currently supports a fibre technology with an estimated WBC FTTC Broadband where consumers have received downstream line speed of 61 Mbps and upstream line speed of 20 Mbps.", so it looks like the date has moved 3 months.

On the coolwebhome site the date given was June 2012, which is probably not current as the site info was dated Dec 2011.

I would have thought that Openreach would have been a bit more informative, so I guess I will just have to keep checking the sources quoted - thanks again.

You cant get more info than you already have, dont be shocked if that date comes and goes and they delay it by another 3 months or so (IE come september that info gets altered to read end dec or jan).

Take the dates on BTs checker with a HUGE pinch of salt.
