How to interpret Trustpilot reveiws?

Hi Everyone

Over the past couple of weeks, I have been doing loads of research into finding the best VPS for my purposes and it seems that almost every VPS company I look at has a lot of very bad and scary reviews on Trustpilot which suggest that all of these companies are crooked. This includes companies that have been recommended to me by ISPreview forum members such as the following:

DigitalOcean
Vultr
Linode
Hetzner
Ionos

I am beginnig to think that perhaps I should avoid Truspilot like the plague.

I would be very grateful indeed for all you thoughts about this.

Thank you very much.

Yeah, take it with a grain of salt.
That said, I will agree that customer support will be an achiles heel for most companies so if you count a lot on that it's best to test for a while, checks response times and competence.

Hi Lucian

Thank you very much indeed for your reply.

The sort of reveiws that scare me the most are as follows:

1. People reciving unexpectedly high bills, sometimes for services which have not been provided or asked for.

2. People's accounts being closed without good reason.

3. When people decide to volutarily close their acounts, their requests to close their accounts are ignored and they keep being billed.

For the companies that are supposedly the most reputable, how likely do you think the above types of review are to be true?

Geez.. don't know what to say.
I think there's a fair share of idiocy also on the part of the "client", stuff they leave out of their story (have worked in this industry for a long time, seen some sh*t).

That said, I've had VPSes with pcextreme, exoscale, hetzner, digitalocean - never have they caused me any trouble.

In particular I've been a Hetzner client for almost 15 years now, not once has any of the above happened to me. They were a bit cheap and cheerful at the beginning, but nowadays they have some amazing services afaict.

But I guess it's all relative and sometimes you can just get lucky or unlucky.

Hi Lucian

Thank you very much indeed for your very reassuring reply about the companies that you have mentioned.
