How to leave Pipex

Hi,

I have been with Pipex for nearly 6 years and they have been excellent, up until the recent acquisition (butchering) by Tiscali - it's now like wading through treacle.

I know I have to give Pipex thirty days notice when requesting my MAC code, but I have heard that the Pipex LLU situation might mean I get hammered with a transfer fee if I go with another ADSL service. I was with NThell before Pipex and don't really want to go back to cable with Virgin.

Any ideas on this, and on how to make the transition painless and trouble-free if possible? Thanks.

Wether or not you have to pay a fee, depends on who you sign up with next.

With one of the Enta resellers for example ADSL24, Titan etc, you would certainly have to pay, but at least you can leave at a months' notice.

With one of the "biggies" like AOL, Sky, BT etc, you probably wont have to pay, but in return they expect you to sign up for at least 12 months (sometimes more).

A transfer from LLU back to IPStream is usually pretty painless, with around 30 mins downtime (in my case at least).

IDNet do not charge for LLU transfers in, they also only have a one month contract.

From their web site;

Migrations from Local Loop Unbundled (LLU) services are also free of charge but can take up to 5 working days with up to 4 hours of downtime.

;)

Hmm IDNet?

Am I the only one who finds 30GB per month for £24.99 a little on the expensive side?

Might as well sign up with one of the Enta resellers, the £5 per month saving would cover the £47 fee after 10 months. :hrmph:

Then there's the likes of Be* or O2, who for much less per month would give you faster speed and a much larger download allowance.

Even AOL give you more than 30gb per month (not that I would recommend that bunch of clowns to anyone... ;) )

Best thing to do would be to email any ISP you are thinking of joining, just to find out if there will be a connection fee.

Hi,

Thanks for the info. I have emailed a couple of other ADSL providers to see if there is any charges.

.

It very much depends on a customers requirements, I am on the £17.99 for 5GB service, more than enough for my needs, as for Enta Resellers, well I think we all know about Enta's Speed Restrictions.;)

Hi

New user obviously.

I'm not very knowledgeable on ISPs but am trying to learn a bit about what's out there. Have been with big ones like BT and NTL in the past nither was great. Trying to learn about some of the others I've herad Pipex mentioned by a few people, but I assume from this thread they're not worth bothering with?

Any opions appreciated.

Pipex was bought out by Tiscali since then it has been failing customers in many areas.

I would look at Zen, fast.co.uk, idnet, aquiss or other entanet baised ISP.
