Huawei 5G CPE Win H312-371 opinions

This morning, in a moment of madness, I bought a refurbished Huawei 5G CPE Win H312-371 outdoor thingy for 269 quid from a seller called ‘The big phone store’ on eBay.
First, are these routers any good? The reviews I’ve seen are positive.
Second, has anyone bought anything from ’the big phone store’, and if so, are they a kosher outfit?
Third and last, I don’t have 5g where I live, so how do they shape up as a 4g router?
I’m hoping it’ll be an improvement on my b818 263, which performs much better when I dangle it out of the window, in fact just opening the double glazed window it sits behind makes a big difference.
I’d appreciate any helpful comments and insights from anyone who’s got one (you know who you are Lucian), or had one.

Odd question to ask when you have bought from them!

Very happy with my cpe win, didn't skip a beat in -10C last winter or +40C last summer on the roof of my London home. For me it was pretty much "set it & forget it" and of course a big upgrade on the b818 because 5G. Do keep in mind I have line of sight to both EE & Three, so expected a good performance. It costed £250 new before all the madness started.
Can be configured to a degree with Huactrl, but tbh I just let it do its thing and bridge mode.

That said, I'd be curious of the zte mc7010, it looks superior on paper and it's cheap on ebay.

I almost went for a Zyxel, but liked the size of the Huawei. I’ve also bought LTE H monitor and Huactrl, and found them invaluable for keeping these buggers under control.

Oh yeah, it's compact and the hw is great, antennas too.
It's my work horse, everything else is for toying or backup.

Was that on it when you got it, or have you had updates since then?
I haven’t put mine outside yet, I’m testing it out on the window sill to make sure everything’s functioning properly, so far so good after 2 days.
It’s a strange beast though - my B818 seems to be getting a better signal (all on 4g of course), but the outdoor one seems to be as fast, if not faster on an apparently worse signal - odd.

Yes, I have had several updates.
The reception should be better once outside.
When comparing with the b818 do you see same bands and cell ids in use?

The same bands, but some different cells and towers the 818 hasn’t connected to before. I’m hoping it sticks to the strongest band 7 when it’s outside, as it has hopped about a bit.

You can force band 7 from Huactrl, but I never had to force it, picks a good signal on its own.

Yeah, I've got that and LT H monitor, and LT Inspecteur on the case. I think it might behave a bit better when it's outside with a stronger signal to lock on to - that's the plan, anyway. To be fair, it has been pretty stable today, even with the horrible weather. Do you leave it on Auto?

Yeah, I just leave auto to do its thing.

On the same day you purchased, I was contemplating buying one direct from them but like you I'd never heard of the company. After seeing your post I thought I'd give it a go from ebay as at least there is some buyer protection.

It arrived earlier in the week, all seems to be present and in decent condition apart from the default password. Rather than it being the one on the Huawei sticker on the back, there is a second sticker with "Password: admin" on it.

Even after a reset, it continues to be "admin" for the default password. Its giving me some concern that the firmware has been modified somehow? So far I've only had my test sim in connected to an old laptop. Its on the same firmware version you list.

Was yours the same, or does anyone know how/why this would have been done?

Yes, mine was the same, no idea why that should be. We’ve got a 12 month guarantee with that lot though, and they do get decent feedback. Mine is fine so far on 4g - a bit of an improvement on the old 818.

Sent mine back, no reflection on the unit itself, it worked well while I had it, but decided to go for something with cell locking, so bought a ZTE MC888 indoor router, which works better for me.

I have a caravan in a rural area sounds like it could be perfect for me however is the outdoor part powered external or does it use poe via the router I assume it goes into port 1 and uses the ax3 as its portal to the outside world?

Hi all.. have this one [H312-371] for a while and has been ok but with google home some devices dont work.. other sites say, it is due to double nat. so when I try bridge mode I lose internet in my indoor wifi router. it is there a guide to make sure i am missing something ? in default "router mode" i pull internet into tplink(wifi router) via static ip on wan interface (dhcp on tplink) when enabling bridge i can connect with static ip but does not serve internet. thanks for any guidance or pointers
