Huawei B535 Router; Best antenna?

Hi, new to the forum and I’m not particularly techy, however looking for some help with a couple of questions;

I have a Narrowboat with the Huawei B535 Router & an unlimited 3 connection. The antenna I currently have is below, it is mounted on an 8ft pole.

Is there a better one available? The router has two SMA sockets, should I buy another and mount it on the same pole? Will that gain me signal?

I get 1-2 bars of signal when I’m set to 3G and I get 3-4 bars of signal when I’m set to 4G, however somehow my 3G connection is varying from .5MBps to 6MBps whilst the 4G is only varying 0.5 to 2MBps. It all seems a little odd to me. When I restart the router the speeds increase for a matter of minutes, then slows down.

advice on new antennas would be great, I’ve been looking at adding this one into the second SMA port;

Any help greatly appreciated,

Kind Regards,
Luke.

The first thing to do is get LTEInspecteur and see what bands its going on, and if manually changing band might speed it up.

Do a bit of searching on the forum for LTEInspecteur to start you off.

It doesn’t appear to work with admin or blank as the password. Is that what you meant on the hauwei login page?

I'm sure we can't use it with this router. I was able to get the Hmanager app working though.

At least locking to bands you choose though not separate upload and download selections.

No, I mean't use admin or blank in the User field and use the password in the password field.

As well as Hmanager apk if you google 'github huawei lte' there is another mini app that allows you to change the bands the router looks for including setting the UL band and DL bands.

There is!?
I'm trying to search it. Is it the littlejo one?

Alas I tried that one but doesn't log in. I reckon the same issue, the B535 doesn't have a username login.

The antenna you have actually looks pretty good, although since the B535 is a MIMO router (hence the two SMA ports) then obviously you're missing a trick by not getting an antenna with two outputs. You could just buy a second antenna and position it somewhere else but on a narrowboat you're going to be limited by space - distance options between them. If it were me I might be tempted to spend on something with a good gain like this, but it's pricey:

Thanks, that’s unfortunately out of my budget, in your opinion would the one I posted with the two wires out perform the one I’ve currently got or would it be a waste of money? Thanks.

Sorry my tip of the LTEInspecteur didnt work for you.

The main reason I wanted you to do that, as it is quite possible to have a very strong signal I get 5 bars on one band but only 8 Mbps. On the other band I get 3-4 bars, but 40-70 Mbps depending on time of day.

Which is why I thought it could be significant when you said that when you restarted the router you got better speeds for a short time.

No worries, I appreciate your reply in any case, my situation does seem odd, I’m wondering if the twin wired antenna is the way forward.

But you are already getting 4 bars of 4g and very poor speeds. So why do you think its a signal issue?

I personally have Three for my mobile and the signal is great speed is appalling, its very oversubscribed in my opinion as its so cheap. So my home broadband is voda which is so much better.

Have you considered getting some PAYG sims to test other providers or perhaps asking friends on other networks to run Fast at your home?

@Istone809. Maybe but I'm not sure as I am unfamiliar with that brand.

@johnf. Having 4 bars of 4G signal is largely irrelevant when measuring the quality of a signal. What you need to know are the -dB values for that signal as you can have 4 bars but still technically have a crap signal. Mobile is loopy.

I know what you are saying, in that it might not be very accurate. But it is in the ball park. Does his no password bargain basement router shows snr and the other stats?
