Huawei Router WS5200 ( using it as Wifi extender )

Im having problems setting up the WS5200 V3 as an Wifi extender at my new maisonette flat I moved into the wifi signal is so bad from the Huawei 5G cpe pro at my parents house they have WS5200 V2 which is connecting to B535.

I tried everything to set it up with no luck here is a picture how it should be like how it is at my parents house.

Can someone help if anyone knows after setting up the the default router name should merge into Huawei 5G Cpe pro so the default router name does not show up in the wifi settings.

When moving around it auto connects without having a new ssid to connect manually.

Something i might be doing wrong maybe but im thinking im not doing anything wrong to my knowledge.

So just to be clear, you want the WS5200 V2 to take over the WiFi / routing side from your Huawei B353 and, I assume, the B353 to just act like a mobile broadband modem? I've seen some people have the odd problem with this before, but can't call if they ever resolved it.

Obvious first question - Have you disabled the WiFi on the B353 and are you plugging the WS5200 V3 into the correct WAN port on the B353 (the dual LAN/WAN port is the last one, next to the phone port)? Sadly, I don't have a B353 to hand, so can only check the basics.

From attached image, I gather you are using the Hilink mesh function to mesh the CPE Pro and the WS5200 together?

How was the WS5200 setup, the usual process is to connect the ws5200 wan port to the cpe pro or other huawei router and to wait for the lights to change to confirm setup.

I'm still surprised the ws5200 is only £14.99 on Amazon and yet is this capable: https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B0937N6RLG

What I want is same set ups as my parents household my parents have b535 router and ws5200 used as an wifi extender as you can see from the picture.

I bought ws5200 for my flat I want to use it to extend the 5G cpe pro wifi but ws5200 its not connecting to the cpe pro properly.

What I mean is when setting up the ws5200 I go through the step were it says wifi repeater i select that then it searches for available wifi networks I select cpe pro 5ghz but the default wifi name should not remain anymore but stays there it should just merge and say cpe pro 5ghz.

There must be something wrong mine is a newer version then to my parents housed.

Have you tried setting this up using the HiLink Function on the 5G CPE Pro?

Ensure HiLink is enabled on the 5G CPE Pro. (check on its admin web pages)
Ensure your Huawei ws5200 has been factory reset (after the failed attempts)
Turn on your 5G CPE Pro - wait for the internet to be fully connected.
Plug in the Huawei ws5200 ***NB -start off with it only 1m away from your 5G CPE Pro ***
The 5G CPE Pro should detect the nearby 'meshable' ws5200.
The light on the 5G CPE Pro should begin to flash - now press the 'H' button on the ws5200.
Wait until the ws5200 shows it is connected to the internet (light turns green usually)
Once that is done, disconnect the power supply, then plug it into the location you want the device to be - shouldn't be more than 10m away (or more than 2 walls) - otherwise you really need another one!

Or ..... try what you did initially with the AI Life app - but after factory resetting the Huawei ws5200.

Good Luck

@oriodec

I followed the steps but still not working i did reset the router ws5200 switched it off and switched the cpe pro off and on the green light did blink and I pressed the H button on the ws5200 did nothing at all do I hold the H button on ws5200 i did hold it then orange light was blinking and was still blinking while i wasnt holding it nothing happen waited for 2min thinking its communicating with the cpe pro nothing happen at all when I connected to the cpe pro wifi when back to the aI life app it did say while I was connected to cpe pro wifi device found it went into hilink no device poped up tho.

What is going wrong am I doing something wrong.

I want to use it as a mesh the default wifi should not display if done correctly as you can see how my parents one are.

As you can see Ws5200 is not displaying in al life app as my parents house as its set up right.

When i try to set it up at my flat still shows up ws5200 on the Al life app.

I must be doing something wrong it should be easy plug and play

Did you factory reset the WS5200?

(From the manual)

Connect the router to the power supply and wait until the router completes the startup process. Use a needle or pin to press the RESET button on the router for more than two seconds until the indicator light goes out. Wait for the router to complete the restart process. When the indicator turns red, this indicates that the router has been restored to its factory settings. If the router has been factory reset, you need to configure it again.

Though I have seen on the net a few other suggestions for the reset (such as holding for 30 secs, turning off power while doing this and turning on power again while holding reset button for another 30 secs).

I suspect the WS5200 may already be 'paired' and needs this factory reset to pair anew with the 5G CPE Pro. (Could it have linked with the 4G Router - I recall the B535 is also a HiLink capable device?) On one of my networks I have three of the Huawei AX3 Quad Cores - similar design and setup instructions as the WS5200 - and pairing of 2 additional units was straightforward (as described), but in the third one, I had to factory reset it and then pairing with the other was as described.

I did factory reset the ws5200 is a new router i bought v3 my parents have v2.

Do i hold the h button for few seconds or just press it once to pair it

I only needed to press the 'H' button on the extender to pair it with the flashing Huawei router. I recall it took quite a few seconds to eventually actually pair after pressing the button (I didn't hold it in, just pressed it).

It might be worthwhile checking there is nothing wrong with your device, by connecting a lan port from your CPE Pro directly to the wan port of the WS5200, by cable, and checking that is actually working? There is the chance that you have a faulty item, that may well neeed replacing - given it hasn't worked using AI Life App or using simple HILink?

I did get the ws5200 to connect to the cpe pro few times with green light showing but the default wifi name of the router still remained.

I have Three 5G broadband which the cpe pro is netowrk locked.

Connected by cable - that is what you would expect - a different network for the mesh (WS5200) (then you would just connect other WS5200 unit/units to the primary one using HiLink or the app - and turn off wifi on the CPE Pro. At least it confirms it is working.

This may clarify the HiLink approach.

(Having tried to connect several times by wifi and also by cable) Factory reset the WS5200 again

Place the WS5200 within 1m of the CPE Pro then power on the WS5200

Wait about a minute (or longer) - the indicator on the CPE Pro should start blinking red (indicating it has detected the ws5200).

(If it doesn't blink red then it hasn't detected the WS5200 and there is a problem - I'd try factory resetting the WS5200 using the long holds with a pin rather than the app)

Press the H button on the CPE Pro to start pairing (if it starts blinking faster then pairing is happening))

Wait until the indicator on the ws5200 turns steady green (takes a little while - 30s to a minute)- nothing instantaneous here

Hopefully, if it turns steady green it should have the same name and password as the CPE Pro wifi. (if it doesn't then the pairing hasn't worked)

You can then disconnect it and move it to where you want it.

My experience of the wifi coverage is that they need to be a fair bit closer to each other than Huawei claims and a minute is a long time waiting for lights to change.

When I did factory reset of ws5200 and followed the steps I swicth off and back on the cpe pro wifi light started to blink while it was bliking I pressed the H button on the cpe pro and on the ws5200 red light started blink after waiting 1min or so then it stoped bliking and stayed red this is the step where it should turn green it doesn't happen is the ws5200 faulty its doesn't work.

The default wifi name still shows up relay was unsuccessful i will contact huawei to see if they will send a new replacement device i bought it from amazon

I was advised by Huawei that maybe there is issue where its conflicting with the IP address on the 5G Cpe pro I will have to turn off DHCP Server on Ws5200 by doing to the web version of the settings but I shouldn't have to do this it should merge into one router (ip address).

If this step does not work then I will know the device is faulty just in case i have ordered ax3000 like I said

One improvement I would suggest adding the same settings as the web version which has more on the al life app I understand why they didnt add them on the app cause the device should work simple just plug & play. It will just confuse people having all this settings on the app or just add advance settings tab on the al life app separate section if they dont want to confuse people.
