Hull Connexin FWA Provider

It appears that KC do have competition in Hull! I was passing through Hull on my Northern travels and noticed a rather significant amount of Ubiquiti FWA equipment on people's houses. I turns out that these are for Connexin Hull, an 'air fibre' style wireless provider, offering up to 60mbps. Website here: http://hull.connexin.co.uk/

It is very easy to assume that Hull has 'a lot' of superfast (FTTP and FTTC) broadband based on the press releases. However, their approach of rolling out primarily time consuming FTTP means that, for the foreseeable future, many shall only have the option of (long line) ADSL2+. This is where Connexin come in, providing a wireless option for those unable to get FTTx.

Connexin has two residential packages: Superfast Lite with 'up to' 10mbps download speeds and 100GB download limit for £18pm with £95 install, and Superfast Max with 'up to' 60mbps and a 250GB download limit for £25 per month with £95 setup.

So how well does it work? Congestion appears to be a very real problem, especially for those on the 60mbps package. Based on this being a shared local access network and one of their central masts seemingly using microwave backhaul itself, is not surprising. https://www.flickr.com/photos/46141405@N07/19287573114

I am not affiliated with Connexin or any of its subsidiaries. Prices correct at time of posting. Other call stuff is included, but this is a broadband review, see Connexin website.

They're already listed in our database, plus there are a few others in the East Yorkshire region (e.g. Quickline, ilovebroadband / LNComms etc.).

Lots happening in Hull from a competition front.

Connexin took over and grew the customer base from the ill-fated 'NextGenUs' some years ago, having operated in the national space for some time. As Mark has also pointed out, Quickline have been around for a long time, selling both directly to consumers and businesses, and via a wholesale model. They're now concentrating on developing more effective ways to deliver superfast wirelessly to rural locations, having secured a huge slug of cash from BDUK.

Other than that, there's the likes of Wisper, AirNet, Relax (Beverley), and, significantly, Pure Broadband. These guys have recently announced a £500k investment in upgrading their backhaul, piggy-backing on to the work CityFibre are doing in the city as part of their national FTTM framework agreement with EE/ThreeUK. They had previously backhauled all of their wireless traffic by beaming it across the Humber into Lincolnshire, and hitting what I believe was a TalkTalk wholesale service.

There's MS3 who have built out a FTTP network in the city, and with CityFibre promising a wider build out of their FTTM dig, and with KC having had reseller agreements in place with a number of smaller B2B service providers since 2009, the days when there were no other ISPs in Hull is long gone.
