I cut my neighbours FTTP cable

This weekend I cut my neighbour's BT fibre line since they installed it with cable ties on my water downpipe and the cable was crossing over the side hedge which I was prunning (see image below with the new fibre connection and the old copper cable). Fibre cables can't be joined back like copper cables as they need specialised equipment. And getting installer appointments from any ISP these days will usually involve a 2 week or longer delay. So if you get FTTP installed in the future make sure the fibre cable drop is secured safely to your house in a way that can't be easily damaged.

I have shared my internet with my neighbour's which is the least I can do for the trouble caused but I doubt this sort of installation was done to BT approved standards.

That is actually a dreadful installation, even if this was your neighbours water pipe its bad. The fact that its yours compounds that exponentially. I am surprised that passed inspection as with BT they normally check everything is ok afterwards

Would have made more sense to clip behind it, is it over PIA? must be anchored to your property too?

It is anchored to their property but cable tied to water downpipe and then it goes over to theirs again. The rendered side it’s my house. The brick side it’s theirs.

I had my install done like this, I expected him to clip it to the walls but only afterwards had I seen he cable-tied the fibre cable to my downpipe. Though not ideal I might clip it myself later as there's no immediate risk of damage etc unlike your situation.

The whole reason, you clip things to the wall is to prevent what happened to your neighbours's fibre cable. I do feel for you as well GreenLantern22. I hope it gets sorted out quickly

I am in the same boat. Cable down the drain pipe - installed by Kelly!!

Did you get a chuckle out of it?

Probably Kelly Comunications installation, they're the biggest cowboys
I never accept any of this engineer for the last 20 years. I tell them to bugger off and send Openreach engineer instead. ( I even telling Plusnet many times no Kelly engineer in the past)

That's why I refused every Kelly contractor! I tell them to go away and send Openreach engineer instead!
Hope they charged you for each appointment. You could be in for some fun when FTTP reaches you if this is your attitude to contractors: very seldom does anyone of any scale use their own staff for basic installs such as yours would be.
