Ice Ice Baby !

I've actually had something similar happen to me in February earlier this year and it's very scary indeed. This was during the February snow storms and my car refused to stop on a level road, prefering instead to drift a good 30m forwards while twisting slowly sideways down the road.

After it came to a stop I parked up as best I could and walked 2 miles home through a blizzard instead. Hmm actually it was still safer to drive as I almost froze to death, which was nice.

For me this is the worst type of video. It clearly shows that camera operator was aware of the conditions but made no attempt to warn others, getting his pleasure from filming others misfortunes.

TWATS!

If they had slapped it into first and let the wheels turn they could have controlled it; at least they would have had a chance to avoid a crash.

I agree 100%

I also despise videos seen on programmes like Who's been framed, where kids have accidents and people think it's funny

:(

The driver was warned not to venture out. From the YouTube poster -

This has been redone to conform with you tube's 'Privacy Policy'. I receieved a privacy complaint today, so hopefully this edit takes care of that.

Shocking driving condtions in Paignton on the busiest shopping day of the year. The car is barely moving but the hill makes stopping impossible and both people in the front of the car decide to jump out?????

The couple were warned by neighbours not to venture out that day and they were the only people to attempt to drive on that road. There were numerous pedestrians around who could barely walk on the black ice so a car really stood no chance.

Near the start of the video you can see a recovery truck. This had been stuck there, blocking the road for 3 hours and didn't move for another 2 hours after this incident.

The reason the video ends abruptly is because my wife and I raced downstairs to see if there were any injuries to the couple. Once I made it past the red cars in the right of the frame, it was clear that several people were seeing to the couple around where the car ended up.

Pretty obvious to see why many people are finding this so funny but believe me, not one person who witnessed this was laughing at the time. My wife and I felt physically sick, as did many others. Thankfully, the couple involved didn't suffer any serious injuries. More importantly, no pedestrians or children were hit by the abandoned car.

PLEASE, check your local roads before setting out on a journey. Listen to local radio, speak to neighbours and try to avoid being part of incidents like this.

Merry Xmas all!

:hrmph:

agreed, any type of slippery condition should be controlled by using the gears, this should be part of the test.. too many ppl just slap on the brakes the moment they start slipping which just makes it worse!!

Tried that when mine span but it doesn't always work as intended, though I did manage to park at the bottom of the hill. You can call it a controlled slip/skid but its only partly under your control and if you're going down hill then gravity is the real driving force, not the driver of your car.

Having watched it again; I think that the chances of controlling it with 1st gear are quite low, although they should have been able to keep it facing the right way!!
However, they decided to "abandon ship" very early; I wonder if the Police will have anything to say about the driver diving out of a car in a residential area.
As it was, he was very lucky not to be crushed by his own car ( as I mentioned in my 1st post, ****!!).

exactly, while they may not have been able to completely control it you could call it disaster management, even a little motion might have helped tho lm sure it looked like they braked if l remember the vid, once you brake its pretty pointless to do more than try control the direction with gears or at least try to.

still continuing from Captain_cretins point of "slapping it into first gear", this is not suggested, in icy conditions and skidding its better to put it in a higher gear as lower gears tend to give more power of motion and its not the power you need but the pure motion without the possibility of wheel spinning hence being in higher gear.

A non fatal screw-up is good for a honorable mention. ;)
