IE8 - needs a supercomputer!

haha the inquirer is so anti MS. It's on Beta , can't judge now. IE 8 don't work with many sites. I un-install it after a day

Do you really think final version IE8 will be a model of efficiency?

I know IE8 is only Beta, but it wouldn't surprise me if these numbers get worse rather than better.

You can guarantee it won't get any worse for the final release. Those familiar with Microsoft's IE history know that this is always the way it happens, the betas are big buggy piles of poop (heck IE8 can't even render Microsoft’s site properly!), the release candidates are average and then by the final release things have improved leaps and bounds.

I recall identical problems for IE5, 6 and 7 betas, even the release candidates were weak but the final code was always better. Part of the problem here is that Microsoft are talking up IE8 too positively before it’s even out of beta, which is a huge mistake. Having said that I do agree with the underlying point about bloat, IE has always had too much crap going on than necessary and they already admitted to barely touching the rendering engine (outside improved standards compliance) with IE7.

Just remember, this is Microsoft, they have a pretty big team of well paid chaps working on hard locked features for the next few months. It will improve, the question is.. by how much?

Hopefully, with another browser making itself known, it will concentrate their minds on efficiency as well as features. I doubt it...but you never know.

true but IE team have tough time ahead of them

You'd think Microsoft would "get it" by now, having seen Firefox, Opera and now Chrome. Doesn't look like they do though but we live in hope.

That's what I like to see - a triumph of hope over experience!! :)

Well it would be odd for them to change tradition. Almost every new version of their software uses vastly more reasources than the last.

Vista was no exception, but they went far to far. Its been a disaster really, and Vista is just one huge pile of resource hogging rubbish for very little reason.

While they tell you Vista sales are doing well, they wont tell you that XP regrades are going through the roof, especially for companies.

The only reason why Vista is selling in quantity is because of the OEM versions stuck on laptops and desktops.

No doubt I'll install it when its out, but if it slows down my machine anymore, it might finally push me to FF, or possibly chrome.

you still use IE

Yeah, thats because it works better than all the others.

I have never had a site thats not working in IE where its worked in another browser. I have had it the other way around, quite a few times.

The fault of the website owner? Maybe, but that doesnt stop the fact it doesnt work in FF but does in IE.

It doesnt seem anymore stable than firefox to me (I do try now and again) and so I dont really see why I should change.

Also, there is a tiny tiny bit of rebellion as a reason. Talk to a lot of people and they sneer at you just because you use IE. Pffft.

As always, I use whats best for me, and if it changes, I'll happily use opera, FF, netscape ;)

I'm forced to use IE8 because about 60% of ISPreview's visitors still do, damn you all.. in a nice way :) .

There is an addon for Firefox called IE Tab. With that installed, anything that doesn't work properly in FF can be opened with FF using IE Tab.

I know, but why install something that I have to get an add on to make it emulate the default program I already have installed?

I had one that didnt last week, the "Home" page opened, but every attempt to navigate the site resulted in the page "hanging".
It worked first time with IE7, so I blasted off a letter telling them I wouldn't buy from a site that only allows unsafe browers!!
