If you can't connect at the moment...

As the old NDO Forum is now dead, I'll copy and paste this from the service status page for the benefit of any Namesco users who, like a friend of mine, got online with a back-up dial-up connection but didn't look at the service status page and thought it must be their router playing up or whatever...

Broadband Pipe Fault
Our wholesale supplier currently has a fault on their network affecting one of our broadband pipe connections to them resulting in an outage for broadband users with usernames ending in:

dynamic.ndodsl.com
static.ndodsl.com
staticip.ndodsl.com
dsl-login2.com
easykey.net

We have raised this with the supplier. Please accept our apologies for any inconvenience caused. Please also be assured that this is being investigated with the highest levels of urgency.

UPDATE
14:58:59 The supplier has confirmed an incident with a fibre optic connection between two buildings beginning at 14:30. It is affecting a number of service providers and they have dispatched engineers to investigate and repair. We will post additional information when it becomes available.

UPDATE
17:19:54 Our supplier is still conducting their investigative and repair work. There is a possibility of cable damage and therefore due to the nature of the repair, work is likely to continue into the evening. We will post additional information when it becomes available.
So, from the mention of the possibility of work continuing into the evening, don't be surprised if it isn't fixed very quickly.

Cheers for the information, I was unable to find their service status page so couldn't check up. Shame their forum closed last month too :( .

Yes, it's a shame they decided to give up the forum. True, it was as dead as a doornail, less than half a dozen regular visitors, but that's largely because anyone who signed up via the "Namesco" front page rather than the "NDO" front page wouldn't have known it existed - if they'd stuck a link on the Namesco Broadband page, it might have been a lot more active!

Service status is at http://www.names.co.uk/network_status.html - with an update this morning.
UPDATE
5 Apr 09 09:14:17 Our supplier has confirmed that the fault was caused due to a construction contractor boring through a deep cabling tunnel, causing damage to a main fibre route in East London. Safety and structural engineers have been on site overnight to assess the damage to the tunnel and begin repairs and technical engineers are doing everything they can to temporarily re-route services via other paths.

Our supplier considers this a major incident and are using all and every resource to restore service as quickly as possible, however due to the complex nature they are unable to confirm a restoration time for us at this time.

We apologise for the inconvenience, but would like to assure customers that this is being treated with the highest levels of importance and urgency. We will post additional information as it becomes available.
That's what comes of deciding to hold the Olympics at Stratford.
Either that or Jackboot Smith's hubby was trying dig a tunnel from Redditch to Amsterdam so that he could get another porn movie without featuring in her database. ;)

Usernames ending...
static.ndodsl.com
staticip.ndodsl.com
easykey.net
...are now back

dynamic.ndodsl.com and dsl-login2.com still to rejoin us - sounds like a good reason for a pub lunch to me.

Incidentally, Mark...
I was unable to find their service status page
I expect you have a million and one bookmarks and don't want to add another one, but if your memory is good, for future reference - there isn't a link to it on the front page, but it shows up in the left-hand column if you click the "Support" tab.

Hi all,

Many apologies for those who had connection problems over the weekend. As noted on here, this was due to a major cable incident in East London. The vast majority of our affected customers are now back online - a small minority regrettably are still having problems and we are continuing to liaise with BT to get service restored to those users as quickly as possible.

Update: Service should now have been restored to all customers, with the exception of those located in the East London area. If you're still having problems and you're not in East London, please power down your router for about 10 minutes and then try and reconnect.

Considering this is the first time I have had connection problems Since I joined NDO back in 2003 ,I don`t think that is a bad record . Though by Sunday evening I was wondering if the dreaded Credit Crunch had Nabbed them .

Yes, I've only been with them since May 2006, but it's been very reliable - apart from one little mix-up when I changed packages, quickly sorted by one phone call, the only (and rare) previous connection problems I've had were shortlived and BT related rather than Namesco themselves.

I was lucky this time, not affected at all myself. The first I knew of it was when a friend in Cricklewood who is "dsl-login2.com" rang me to ask if mine was working, so I looked at service status of course. A friend in Hounslow was presumably off too, as she's also "dsl-login2.com", so I left a message on her answerphone to tell her what the score was - but I think she may have missed it by being away for a few days anyway, as I haven't heard back from her and got no answer on the phone this morning either.
