I'm currently on a 512K connection - ADSL MAX support 500K or Greater

Guys,

I'm currently on a 512K connection with NDO, with the new MAX service going live, I thought I'd chec to see if I could increase my speed to 1MB.

However when I do the line checker test with BT, it gives me the following info:-

Your exchange is ADSL enabled, and our initial test on your line indicates that your line should be able to have an ADSL broadband service that provides a line rate up to 512Kbps. However, due to the length of your line, an engineer visit may be required, who will, where possible, supply the broadband service.

Our test also indicates that your line should be able to support a potential ADSL Max broadband line rate of 500Kbps or greater.

I contacted NDO who told me that no the only service I could receive on my line would be 512K.

The gripe I have is that a mate of mine live 2 minutes down the road from me and he can get a 1MB connection.

Is there anyway that I can go to 1MB??

Thanks in adance.

do your check on http://eco.btwholesale.com/broadband1/ and see what it says. I should think if it says 500 then 512 would be ok.

You must live someway away for it to be this low though

ady, I am in the same position as you. But I have ordered ADSL MAX, Bt have committed to a date of tomorrow for the re-grade.

I will let you know how it goes...

Thanks for the info, do you live along way from your exchange?

Let me know what speed you eventually get.

Thanks again

yeah i do live a long way from the exchange, i could only get adsl when bt removed the distance limit in nov 2004.

The speed you and I get is also dependent on the quality of the copper from the exchange to the house, and the internal wiring.

but i will post my speeds. but remember it could go down while the tests are run......

dont forget that when you get connected you may not see what the real speed will be for upto 10 days. After that you will be given the "stable" speed.

Dont go on what the first days speed is like

I know that creative, see my comment about the speed to go down as tests are run.

Anyway it has been upgraded, according to my router this is what I currently have.

Downstream:
Speed - 2240kbps
LA - 57db
NM: 7db

Upstream:
Speed: 448kbps
LA: 15.5db
NM: 19db

I know this could change, but to be honest I never thought it would start that high. I will keep ya posted.

ThatzVinyl which isp are you with ? what is your speed is like now ? look like your downstream picking it up much slower. Have you try reboot your router or modem ?

Well I've taken the plunge and upgraded to Broadband Max - I've got an activation date 0f 14/4/06

Do you normally have to wait for the estimation date or do they normally do it quicker??

ok, got back from being out this evening.

and things have changed again::

DownStream Connection Speed 2080 kbps
UpStream Connection Speed 448 kbps
