In stats, are properties like mine classed as having access to FTTP?

I was reading one of the articles today that - as usual - referenced the current stats for properties listed as “having access” to FTTP. It got me wondering whether properties like mine that have e.g. virgin media FTTP up to the boundary, but can’t connect the last bit to the house, are covered in those stats?

in my case, there’s a long driveway up to the house that’s tarmacked and also has shared access for the first 15%, give or take.

When I look for my address on their checker or sales page the ISP doesn’t have me down as connected even though I have a connection to the drive, unlike my neighbours either side that have the same connections and are listed. If I look on bidb, that shows me as being active and in service just like my neighbours.

I assume the same info that feeds bidb is also feeding these stats and so shows all of the properties that just fit outside of connection feasibility but are still “active”, so long as you pay thousands to get the connection working?

For kicks, is there a standard, official, and consolidated record of these stats and their sources?

@Msh is best placed to explain how he aggregates the data into bidb, however I don’t believe it can be any more granular than what the checkers themselves can report publicly.

Thinkbroadband compiles their own ‘verified’ record of what network coverage is available where, based on a mixture of searches and user self reporting / speed tests.

The source of data for bidb is that of the providers themselves and results are uncached (this is an important point as it means that a result will show as live the instant that the provider will sell you services). If it says you're "live" then it's picked up the ISP saying they can connect you. If you say this mismatches the result on the website then please do let me know (PM me your address or use the contact form, if you're comfortable with that) because that shouldn't happen.

What I assume has happened is that it's matched to one of your neighbours (in which case you probably see a warning triangle next to the "live" text).

The results on bidb are not ones used by anyone else (yet) and the results don't rely on any other third party than the networks being queried.

Networks are required to send UPRN level data to BDUK (at least this is what I have been told by a few networks), I assume BDUK is calculating based on these reports they send over. In which case the stats shouldn't include properties like yours.

Here in West Bergholt there are several groups of VM FTTP hatches in the pavement at the end of shared drives / short private roads, clearly the intention was to be in a position to offer a service to those properties.

I'm currently in a similar issue, 25th July apparently "Openreach" installed FTTP to the premises, 24 apartments.

But Cityfibre leaflet dropped that we will be connected soon...

The cabling looks like Cityfibre, but if I go to Cityfibre's site and enter my postcode, I'm a private road, and Openreach state nope.

BIDB states planning for both carriers, it's currently a waiting game to see who actually installed what.

I’ve just checked again after seeing your reply, and now (vs. a couple weeks back) I don’t see my address as live anymore, but the virgin media checker appears the same as it always has.

However OR and CityFibre are both listed as planned, which is not what they say. Will DM you the address.

And while I have you, I’d like to say thank you for bidb. I am on it (very) regularly and want to donate. Will use the support link as a thanks!

I made some significant changes to the VM checker a few days ago, that has probably fixed the matching to your address.

Okay so Openreach's planning result on bidb.uk is really poor, it basically just takes the map data from https://www.openreach.com/fibre-broadband/where-when-building-ultrafast-full-fibre-broadband and says you're planned if you're in an area of an exchange due to upgrade. It's not accurate and it doesn't really reflect something being planned. It's a bit misleading, sorry about that.

CityFibre on the other hand, I'd say this is more positive. It's a result of the earliest stage of planning, but I believe the result is accurate. Your address even has a primary and secondary node attached to it. Of course, CityFibre can go back at this point to it being "unplanned". Maybe they don't want to commit to it this early on.

And while I have you, I’d like to say thank you for bidb. I am on it (very) regularly and want to donate. Will use the support link as a thanks!
Much appreciated ❤️ Glad I can help!
