Increase in BB line speed and reduction in noise margin

ISP Rep
On the 11th July I changed my line from BT to AOL. I have been with AOL isp for many years.

Before the swap my line speed was around 3mb and noise margin was anywhere between 11 and 14dB. Over the past week my line speed has increased and noise margin reduced.

This morning my speed is a little short of 4mb and noise margin is 6.5dB. My sync has gone from 2760 to 4616Kps

I'm amazed that on a line that BT used to report as having a potential 0.5mb how much quicker it now is. I'm still some way from the local exchange.

Not sure how changing the line has made so much difference and more so over the past week.

It looks like they're pushing your line right to the limit as 6.5dB is just below the point that I would consider enough for a completely stable line, although what really matters is whether or not your noise margin stays stable. Big fluctuations at that level might cause the connection to drop and reconnect, which would cut your speed back.

BT used to say my line could only give 0.5Mb; I now get 6-6.5Mb with Vispa.
