inkjet printers

Anyone out there have an opinion on the HP5150 printer?
I want to be able to print edge to edge photos at a reasonable cost.
According to the reviews I have seen it seems to be pretty good but hands on know how is better.
Thanks and a merry christmas to one and all.

I have a 5550 (it doesnt do edge to edge) but the print quality is superb even on plain paper, i rarely use any other setting than draft or "everyday".
If the 5150 uses the same print engine then you are on to a winner.

My friend has one of those HP printers. He is very happy with it, although he said the ink cartriges are rather expensive.

They are more expensive than some, but they are also of higher capacity and can be refilled without problem; unlike newer Epson's etc where the chip stops it from being refilled unless you buy a chip re-setter.
Also remember that the tank and printhead are one, so you get a new printhead when you get a new cartridge, when you take that into consideration they are a comparable price to canon.
My previous printer was a canon and the printhead never lasted more than a year anyway; 2-3 (high cap) refills or 4-6 (low cap) replacement tanks and it would crap out.

The Epsons are very good but need good paper for graphics etc, the HP will print on plain paper better than my canon would on photo paper.
I bought my son an Epson last year for xmas, my only gripe is that it is noisy when paper handeling, my old dot matrix is quieter!!

choicestationary can bugger off.. £5 more than ebuyer.com go there for cheap cartridges - this isn't advertising. It's fact. :p

You can always try Cartridge World http://www.cartridgeworld.org/locations.html

The refill the cartridge for you at about half the price of buying new - In my experience, I refilled the black one 4 or 5 times before quality degraded, and the colour 2 or 3.

Edit---

Also there are online services which will professionally print any photo's you send them. I'm not sure about costs, but it may be worth looking in to.

Choice Stationary are about as cheap as they get and as their cartridge price is typically less then £5 I cannot see how you can get them £5 cheaper from e-buyer and you need add the VAT & p&p on with ebuyer.

I looked one up at random Black Epson Cartridge for 480/580

buyer - £3.70
Choice - £2.15 (or 6 for £1.73)

likewise... previously bought daughter no2 an epson c42 and noisy is a bit of an understatement! It also makes her pooter desk shake when it whizzes to and fro!!

I have an old Epson Photo700. The quality on photo paper is good but other paper is poor. All Epsons seem to be very noisy. The added issues with the newer ones is the cartridges cost more because they are chipped.

I think nowadays the HP's are a better bet. A bit dearer to buy but generally the print quality is good. Consumables are cheaper & they are quieter.

Actually I have a new Epson Stylus C84 and I think it is excellent. It is extremely quiet, and will do edge-to-edge photo prints etc. perfectly. Inks aren't too bad either as it takes 4 cartridges (the colours are separate so you only throw away what you have used). The text is very sharp but I normally use one of my lasers to print normal text etc.
