Install on 7th Sept. Some Questions for those already using Youfibre

Stageshoot

Our Install in arriving on Thursday 7th Sept.

Currently use Three 5G.

I think I am going to be best refusing the supplied router and using my own

Current Setup.

3 Router feeding into Asus Tuf AX6000 Router on a 2.5Gbps port, Other 2.5Gbps port goes to a Mac Studio with a 10Gbps Network port

Remaining Router ports deal with Nas/Home Automation etc and a 1Gbps Cat 6 Link to the rest of the house

Booked the 1Gbps connection for £29.99 a month, but now they have launched the 2Gbps for £49.99 Part of me wants to go for the upgrade, but customer services say they wont offer the 12 months for £1 a month on anything above 1Gbps which is a shame

So my main questions.

IPV6. They say it is activated in my area, but I still have worries things like my Phillips Hue Hub, Smartthings Hub, Ikea Trsffi Hub, Aquara Doorbell Hub etc etc are going to have issues even if the IPV6 is active, has anyone got these set up and working OK..

Plex Server, We access this out of the house to download work video/photo stored on it, Is plex stable on the IPv6 they use.

They have been a bit vague about IPv6, I have been told its active in our area but if there are any issues the engineer will look at it on install, and if they cant get IPv6 to work with out sruff they will disable it and fallback to a Dynamic IPv4 (Which worries me as they say online they are CGNAT) which causes issues with my stuff, They also said if the engineers cant get it working they can cancel the install at that point or I can contact retentions who should be able to sort out a free static IPv4 for me. (Is this sales bull or has anyone had it).

I just get the jinxies that they know I have a difficult system and they are kicking the can down the road till the engineer gets here and they can go Tag your it!

SO if anyone uses a lot of home automation etc Plex etc, any issues or is all working well with regards to remote access

Keep the supplied wifi router as a backup.

If the nas has a 10gb nic in it i'd do this

set the asus unit into dual wan mode.
youfibre primary wan (2.5gb)
3 secondary land (1gb)

either set dual wan to load balance (and make some routing rules) or as a failsafe back system

tuf 2.5gb into either 2.5gb switch or 10gb switch and then the rest of your network..

if you get a l2 managed switch you get access to virtual lans which means you can do network isolation etc

Cheers, appreciate the advice.

Hoping now they are pushing 2gbps and 8gbps they may offer a router better than the Amazon thing, (As that caps at 1gbps anyway). seems they may be doing a decent Asus Router on the higher packages so may see if I can blag that with a "I am going to upgrade to the higher package very soon". on install play ;-)

The 2Gb - Asus XT12 & The 8Gb- Asus GT-AXE

I'm sure I seen on X/Twitter someone asking about getting one and they said only available for said package

As soon as my install was completed I disconnected the YouFibre router and connected my own, it worked straight away, I use a GL-AX1800 flint Router. The YouFibre router is back in its box, just in case I ever need it.

Well Cabling team came out today and ran cable from the nearest pole ready for the install tomorrow..

Bit miffed with the Jobsworth attitude, I already have a hale in the wall with a rubber insert (Where the old Virgin Cable came into the office), Perfect place for where I want the install behind desk, But Oh No, We cant stuff cable in existing holes we have to drill a completely new one, Bonkers

Will see what Install team say tomorrow!

I have the gigabit package (the only one they offered at the time, besides the second-mortgage-worthy 10gb) and the supplied Eero router is still in it's box. You likely won't get the Asus mentioned above unless you go for the > 1gb packages.

Just let the engineer do their thing and get it working, then promptly put it in a box and into a cupboard in case you need it in future.

I was worried when our line was installed that my Unifi Dream Machine Pro would have trouble connecting - but it worked with zero config needed.

Yep they set it up on the Eero which was then stuffed back in its box and the 2x 2.5gbps Wan Asus is now doing its thing

YouFibre on Wan1 and Three on Wan2. all hunky dory

This is standard practice for any comms engineer I'm afraid - they know the new hole is good and won't have to explain to the boss why they fubared an expensive fibre run when it gets snagged on some crap in the existing hole!

I don't think they're offering these on the gigabit lines, but only on those uprated packages. Will be interesting to see what they install next week when my You8000 upgrade goes ahead.

Nice. Reminds me I still need to add my 5G TP-Link WAN router back into the mix, once I've got my gigabit WAN port freed up :)
