More than likely a problem with the line card and everyone was having a intermittent connection so it has been reset/reseated which has sorted the problem out.

nope... it started waaaay before that problem did, l noticed l typed the thread title wrong, should have typed lost carrier rather than port drop

rather than say everything again l had made a thread at thinkbroadband which some may have been following while ISPr was down, here is the link:

http://bbs.adslguide.org.uk/showthreaded.php?Cat=&Board=btsupplier&Number=3114404&page=&view=&sb=&o=

while at 7PM yesterday things have returned lm still at a loss to explain what the hell happened!!

Copied and pasted the information from your post to save our members having to go to another forum to read it.

Im currently with EurISP (who provide services for Fast4) so lve been through pretty much the same problems as Fast4 sadly however the saga continues, lm currently having a battle with Sync loss..

in fact within the last nearly two hours my connection has lost sync according to eurisp abour once every 2 mins or less this started happening at 8.50am Monday

it also came to my attention that my old modem wasnt reading the stats correctly when concerning noise margins which have gone as low as 2 (lm told thats bad) and go as high as 12 now lm by no means new to DSL but theres still allot for me to learn about the technology.

l will also note a BT engineer came round on Friday the 7th after spending 15mins rewiring it so l couldnt connect to the internet (basically he fitted it so l had 2 filters on my line, you see the extension to my room thyat goes the the modem had its own filter) and connecting his tools saying everything was fine.. what shocked me the most is the fact he wondered why we had a surge protector fitted to the phone line.. well obviously he hasnt had a computer blown up by lightning strong enough to take out the phone line for a week and a computer.

in short lm very peeved off at BT

ld also like to note that in the duration of tying this message l have lost sync 7 times thats basically once a minute, imagine that lasting 2 hours [and counting] (my profile is defiantly going to be capped at 2Meg)

thankyou kits...

also the whole length of my disconnections lasted 10 hours at about once a minute maybe less on occasions, from what lve been told my connection finally regained usability at around 8PM last night and has currently stayed connected, EurISP have not been informed of any information as to why these problems occured however l have asked them to find out if possible they have also ruled out any causes my end these problems were related to the signal that comes to my home.

if anyone is interested in the logs l have since saturday as l changed my modem on saturday morning around 4am due to a disconnection then please download them from this link: http://animeidol.info/routerstats/RouterStats.zip

the file contains noise margins and sync speed graphs and text logs, l only have a text log that contains yesterdays results through my sync loss problem however your welcome to view it at this link http://animeidol.info/routerstats/router stats2007-09-10.txt

l mentioned earlier l had intermittent sync issues monday, well today another BT rep came out and "again" and told me my line was "fine" lm totally furious because this time we will prolly get a charge even tho quite obviously we will end up footing the bill (the rep also tried to bs us about the fact that lost carrier could be caused by my hardware)

on a side note its also came to my attention that the exchange was being worked on that day... all in all tho today like monday has not been a great day..

sorry to triple post but l couldnt edit an earlier one, its been about 9 days since this problem and since the day l experienced so many disconnections and my profile has stuck at 2meg just had to follow it up and raise some speed tests with a support ticket to get the cap removed.

actually lve not noticed sync problems however l have noticed disconnects but they are random in the fact that sometimes its two or three days or more so l believe my modem is dropping and re-authenticating, my logs now dictate this along with EurISP and their logs...

as for CRC/HEX errors lve noticed none when looking in logs and status pages, l have been looking into something else to rule out other issues (twisted pairs for the line extension coming up to my room to the modem but need money :p) however according to my ISP my IP profile should have risen by now it has been consistently stuck at 3500 for 10 days now when it was originally around the 6000 mark (in the process of trying to get some tests taken at the moment but the BT tester is giving me some problems as usual around peak times)

If you are still using the Netgear the detailed stats link on here http://pathogenrush.blogspot.com/2007/06/netgear-dg834g.html with give you a count of CRCs and hec errors.

You should certainly be using a twisted pair extension for you router unless it is very short, if practical it might be better to have the router close to the master socket and run an ethernet connection to the PC.

If you are using any other non-twisted pair (usually flat) telephone extensions for your phones make sure they are connected through a filter (ie at the master socket end) as they will pick up interference that will affect your adsl. A master socket faceplate filter is the neatest solution, hmm I guess BT may have already fitted one to try to fix the disconnects?

nope BT said there was nothing wrong and my wiring was fine, in fact the guy who came out gave me none of the advise lve been receiving through these forums, he never even told me what he was doing and what could cause the problems etc..

with regards to my modem l have a 15meture cord going to it, cable is flat so lm taking advice to try and get twisted pairs but lm going to need at least 15+ metres (the cable l had at the old house was longer, and problems with my provider have only happened since the EurISP and Fast4 disconnection problems altho l think everything is working ok now.) in any case there isnt anywhere safe my modem can go apart from my room, mainly because it isnt safe with regards to l have to sheld wiring etc and keep things high off the ground since my sisters cat has a tendency to claw and do just about everything he can to chew through cables and such plus the fact l prefer the modem in my room as it makes it easier to hard reset :D.

just had this message from my ISP

I have had a quick reply from BT regarding your line, they have told me
that your line is not capped and that your BRAS was set to 3500kb
because of the previous drop outs. I have been told that if the sync
speed remains stable at that rate then the BRAS profile will reset
itself which will be at 03:58 on 21/09/07.

seems my profile may reset tomorrow, hopefully to a reasonable level...

sad to say lve started having intermittent sync loss again suffered 8 lost carrier errors starting with a network outage that supposedly happened thismorning...

still happening sometimes once a minute.. other times an hour, as lve said in another thread lve managed to find a pattern, and the pattern is that both times lve suffered these losses BT openreach vans have been within close vicinity of my house working on junction boxes very close by (at this moment lm on my test socket and still suffering loss of sync, only my modem is connected lm going through wireless which l hate prefer to be directly caballed in)

l posted this previously, as of 2PM my logs show a stable connection, lve also taken a few test from the bt speed tester and my BRAS profile has not reset, obviously because my disconnections however its funny they stop as soon as it was supposed to reset.

any chance anyone has a number to get hold of BT Openreach? l really want to prove my theory and get something done about it, otherwise my ISP gets the flack also l would like to complain about the engineer who was working down the road (walked down the road where he was working and asked him if what he was doing could affect ADSL because l had noticed a pattern to my problem which was when BT guys were working on their boxes, and he told me it was none of my f***ing business and to go f**k myself, which l think is grounds for a complaint especially if he is one of the ppl causing my problems etc)

apologies for the blanked out sware words however l didnt know how to explain better what happened to get across my annoyance of those annoyances we call BT engineers who do nothing much for extortionate prices.
