Internet speed is fine but nothing loads?

why can't you use theirs as main router?
When my router was faulty, they gave me a MX5400 which is a weaker version than the AX4200 they provided me when they first installed my internet. Apparently a problem with stock levels so they gave me an MX5400 but it took a while to come so I bought a another AX4200 from amazon and used that as my main router instead and then used the MX5400 as a child node. You think I should change it so the MX5400 (CF router) is my main one and used the AX4200 as my child node instead?

Can they even tell the Linksys AX4200 is not provided by them?

As previously mentioned, if you run tracert 8.8.8.8 and can confirm there is a problem upstream with one of their links being saturated it’ll be easier to navigate the discussion away from local environmental issues.

I’ve recently upgraded my old raspberry pi 2B to the newer 4B with 1Gbps ethernet interface so now can perform speedtests over wired more easily. You could do something similar and setup a cron job to do a tracert every hour and redirect output to a file.

Any testing needs to be performed over a wired connection as local wifi issues and interference are very common.

Will try the tracert when the wifi goes down next. The asked for the serial number and the hub didn’t come up on their system and then they said they can’t see drop outs as it’s not their router.

When this stuff happens again try this command instead: tracert 8.8.8.8

It will check all the points between you and that IP which is Googles DNS service. It will very likely reveal more information as if your internet is fully down, DNS is down and it cannot resolve google.co.uk to be able to ping it etc
Hi Pri, so I dont think the internet went down completely just now but youtube videos were not loading for about 2-3 mins but I put this in CMD. Not sure what needed to be covered up. Anything looks bad?

@Skywalkerr.

A very interesting outcome, if you know the IP address (IPv4) you can tracert to 8.8.8.8 so basic connectivity doesn't drop (consistent with no lights going red).

I would factory reset then swap the routers so the Community Fibre supplied router connects to their fibre converter (ONT) and your device is connected to their router. This may or may not help but will aid any further discussions with Community Fibre's support people.

As for the point "the hub didn't come up on their system", I think my Community Fibre Linksys is generating traffic to:
about every 30 seconds.

Also (probably) dcs-global.samknows.com less often.

My guess is one of these (perhaps Samknows) goes to Community Fibre's monitoring and may be specific to Community Fibre's "special" software.

If disabling IPv6 didn't help (on the LAN side) is it possible to change the DNS servers used by the router?

This suggests it might be:

My router is in "bridge mode" as I just use it for WiFi so I don't have much in the way of settings available. It's also a more limited model than the current issue.

Hi Barnet, internet went down again and got this when I pinged google.co.uk
This looks like a failure of the DNS.

It's worth using nslookup against alternative DNS to check if it's a point failure of the configured DNS. A temporary workaround can be to configure an alternative DNS.

Once I factory reset the routers, do I need to wait for them to come back online before swapping them around? Also, how to I change them around in the linksys app?

For the first point, if you factory reset the Community Fibre supplied router and get that working "stand alone" first. If you can manage with that setup I would try it for a day or two like that.

Then add the other router to the mesh.

I haven't done this so can't really advise but these instructions look promising:

Keep things simple and only use the CF Linksys device in standalone mode on its own. As you’ll only get more hassle from support by adding your own device. Once you’ve been through the support hoops feel free to do whatever you like.

will do this and get back to you Barnet. What setup do you have?

If I were to buy a CF AX4200 on FB marketplace/ebay, would that still give support problems as that should come up on their system since it’s provided by CF but just sold for resale?

Essentially, after the 3rd entry in your screenshot it's in the internet and nothing else needs to be covered, but better safe than sorry :)

Based on this result I would say like the other posters that your DNS service has broken. Perhaps try a third-party DNS provider like Quad9, CloudFlare or Google (or a combination of those as you can use multiple at once for redundancy and speed).

So I changed my routers over so the CF provided one is the main router. Already I see it’s a much weaker router as it’s the MX5500 version which is only a dual band router. I have already connected my other Linksys AX4200 as a child node and that has helped but the speed was much better when the AX4200 was my main node. I just don’t know what to do going forward as CF can’t see third party linksys routers on their end so not sure how support will be for the future. They should help solve internet issues not matter what even if I want to use my own linksys routers. I might swap them again but on the weekend now since I’m working from home this week but I’ll see. in terms of drop outs, haven’t had any drop outs as of yet today before and after switching the routers over.

it would be good to know how many here are using their own routers with the provided CF modem and have support given them problems because they are using their own routers?

I’m using my own router and Ubiquiti wifi-6 AP’s. If I have an intermittent issue, I’ll have to reconnect the Linksys AX4200 but haven’t needed support in over a year.
