Internet speed is fine but nothing loads?

As the CF support team are jobsworths 🤣

Although, I had to do the same with my previous ISP Plusnet FTTC before they would take my intermittent disconnection issues seriously.
This is true lool. Do you tell them to reset your MAC address before plugging the AX4200 back in?

also what router do you use as your main router?

I’ve never had to call support so far but think the MAC caching issues have been resolved on the 1Gbps service and below.

I’m currently using a 5 year old Ubiquiti Edgerouter (no wifi) which can handle upto 1Gbps dual internet and means less change whenever I switch ISPs. It is now EOL and Edgerouter model has minimal development but it’s been very reliable.

Alternative options would be Draytek or pfsense/opnsense.

I wonder if I should just buy a CF AX4200 from eBay/fb at least that way I’ll have one from CF and one from Amazon and just mesh them and CF will be able to still see the CF one on their system.

So I have had this issue for the past couple days where my internet would go down for a couple minutes and nothing would load (webpages, YouTube videos etc) and then after a couple minutes it would come back. The weird thing is, the routers and modem don’t go down when the internet goes down, no red lights no nothing. I have my own linksys AX4200 as the main router and then have a child node that is wirelessly connected and that router is a MX5400 which is a CF router. I’m on the 500GB package and I rang CF yesterday and apparently my MAC address was full so they told my to switch the modem off from the mains and wait a little bit and plug it back in, it worked for a little bit but when back to things not loading. Anyone know what I could do to fix this?
I have had similar to this before, it was actually caused in the same way for me, but had odd symptoms, IPv6 was working but IPv4 was down, they just reprovisioned my line on the OLT quickly and that seemed to resolve it as the ONT just refused to allow an IPv4 address to be handed out

I'm using this thread again to report another outage, maybe we should have a dedicated thread for outages. This is the 3rd one I've had since signing up in September, really not happy about this.

My Asus router says WAN connection was lost at 8:25 PM on Nov 30, it's now 10:15 PM and it's still down. Interestingly, this time it says "Network cable unplugged" whereas iirc before it said something like "Cannot connect to DHCP server", so there's some chance this is an issue with my network although everything appears to be plugged in and working, so I don't know...

Anyone else having issues? I am in NW London.

Alive and kicking from SE London. What lights does the ONT got?

CGNAT? or not? (I dont think I had a single drop on the 3gb since my total meltdown a couple of months back)

Ok so the PON light was red, I turned the ONT off and on and now it's working fine with everything green.

I would have done this first but my ONT is in a very hard to reach place, this was a pain. The issue still came from their network. Either this or the ONT is acting up but I doubt that. Maybe if I'd just waited it would have fixed itself, but I waited almost 3 hrs. Anyway, I hope it doesn't happen again, if it does I may have to buy a plug with a remote control or ask for a new ONT...

Has this happened to anyone else, where the ONT PON light went red for some reason and it required a reset?

My understanding is that the ONT won’t reconnect if it looses signal so yes you may want to buy a smart plug so you can cycle your ONT remotely.

Since you mentioned that your MAC address was full, it's possible that your modem is having trouble assigning IP addresses. One thing you can try is to set a static IP address for your main router (Linksys AX4200) and see if that stabilizes your connection. Just make sure it's within the range specified by your modem.

this is exactly what happened with my first ONT!!! 2 days later it was red after 2 hours... and then totally dead!! Request new now, as they need to send an engineer which takes a month. Explain that you have seen similar reports and that it happened before.

really? My feeling (I dont have hard data) is different.

Hm well mine has worked fine for 2.5 months and this is the first time it's happened,. Since I reset it yesterday it's been fine. I'll wait to see if it happens again, then I'll contact them.

Could it be because it's in a place that is not heated or climate controlled, so it gets almost as cold as the outside, maybe it got too cold for it and it bugged out. I've never had any issue with any other network equipment being there though.

They really need to send an engineer? I was hoping they could just send a new ONT. Anyway, for now I'll just wait and see if it happens again.

ho ho ho...

I was hoping that too... :) :)

It avoids CGNAT "Carrier Grade Network Address Translation" (where your traffic is lumped in with tens or hundreds of other customers and then dumped onto the internet).
With the 3gig package you get your own public IP address with no NAT.

Is it only 3gb package that offers this?

Yes. Though I believe some people have threatened to leave and _may_ have had some success.
