iPad 3 Keynote

only £399

LOL
Only £829 for a wifi/4g 64gig version..... Im rushing to my wallet (sarcasm off).

5 megapixel camera LOL
No siri LOL
STILL NO MEMORY CARD SLOT.

Only good thing is the display and on a tiny 10inch screen you dont need res that high anyway... Even if you did you will have to buy all your apps again when they have been reprogrammed to take advantage of the high res, rather than having a scaled up mess.

I was looking forward to the ipad3 (sorry i mean "NEW" ipad) as it is though its yet again IMO and only my opinion of course just another shiney apple device for the sheep.

Oh and 4x quicker....... LOL dont look that way according to some web benchmarks.

Good old apple always good for a giggle.

Can't believe how many people on other forums are dropping a not so small fortune on the new iPad. I have no need for a tablet and I'm betting the same is true for many iPad buyers. :hrmph:

The people you mention are normally the ones that will buy anything apple, they probably have IPAD 1 and 2 sitting around basically doing nothing and have bought every iphone also.

Maybe they do actually think the stuff is that good....... Or more likely they have more money than sense to lob as much as they do in apples direction every 6-12 months.

This.

Apple products are good but not that good. They are overpriced imo. They know that the 'sheep' will happily pay for it and can charge these crazy prices. :)

it still makes me laugh tho, technically Mac is a highly modified version of Linux which in essence is free.. Apple has made so much money from it mainly because it was linked to hardware. it really astounds me tho how much money throw apples way for the same product.. because lets face it, this new tablet is pretty much the same one that was released the last time.

<pedant mode>Well OS X is a Unix, but not a highly modified version of Linux(though many years ago Steve Jobs did chat to Torvalds about adopting Linux IIRC). Darwin is closest to a free version of OS X.</pedant mode> :)

£829? Madness. That gets you a nice Sony laptop with a useful operating system installed.

For people who have the Apple kit - if it's possible to get an unbiased view :) is it actually stable and useful?

Interested since I got a tablet PC for Christmas with Android on it. It's OK as a plaything, you wouldn't do any serious work on a device without a keyboard anyway, Android is as buggy and pathetic as usual and falls over readily the moment an application misbehaves both on this and on my phone.

These are not serious pieces of kit, barely computers. It's OK for showing relatives something on iPlayer perhaps, or as a fancy notebook.

Based on the above: is the Apple iPad a computer?

WITHOUT bashing Apple.

Everyone i know (including me) that owns any tablet uses it probably the same way you do Mark. The odd bit of video and music and the odd game/app.

I personally own one of the many Android tablets that cost around £100, i bought it more on impulse and a curiosity. I would never try to do any serious work on it, for that id sooner given the choice use a cheap netbook.

People i know that have an ipad its basically the same, the odd time waster game, bit of video and music.

That is probably the thing that annoys me most. It appears my £829 figure for the top end model is wrong (sorry that should had been dollars). Looking at the UK site the top end model is actual £659 for the device the prices per month then for the 4G (cough) service range from £2.00 per 200MB to £25.00 for 10gig a month. That includes wifi use apparently (how they work that out i dunno) see
http://store.apple.com/uk/browse/home/shop_ipad/family/ipad/select_ipad for pricing.

For that type of money in a year going for the 10gig plan as thats what you will want if you use it as a serious do all your computer work on it device you are looking at £959 for the first 12 months. (25 a month x 12 months + 659 for the device).

For that type of money and assuming you are someone who for whatever reason right wrong or indifferent (im being impartial now unassuming and fair) must have an Apple item......... You can have a Mac book Air...
http://store.apple.com/uk/browse/home/shop_mac/family/macbook_air/select

Why, oh why would anyone pay a grand total of £959 for a tablet, when you can have a laptop type product from them which (looking at it from an apple buyer standpoint) is also slim, sexy and not much different in physical size and what will allow you to be more productive for the same money?

Hell for £40 more than that £959 (IE £999) you can actually have a whole 13inch Macbook PRO laptop which will allow you to be more productive and provide a better entertainment experience than either the ipad or the air.
http://store.apple.com/uk/browse/home/shop_mac/family/macbook_pro

I just really do not comprehend it.

Perhaps someone that does understand Apple stuff can explain why they will be spending a possible £959 on an ipad for what is (and im being impartial this statement applies to any tablet which may cost near that mark) a device which will not be as productive as other stuff in their range.

Hell im not an apple fan, i think its all overpriced but my lord even if forced and looking at this with common sense and impartiality i would sooner take the Mac air for that type of money.

It still makes a slim and sexy statement and makes you look cool, doesnt it? Isnt much different in physical size to an ipad is it??? Maybe im missing something.

Tablets, like Netbooks before them, only really work well when they adopt a sub-Laptop price point that matches what they are capable of and used for. We seem to increasingly be getting to the point where a lot of this kit (Tablets, Smartphones) is now priced at the same or higher level than a modern high spec PC. It doesn't make much sense.

At almost £1000 I could buy a full PC, laptop and maybe even a mid-spec android Tablet (depending upon my choices).

For a grand you could have a half decent core i3 laptop (£400), a reasonable (it wont win any speed awards but will be good enough for most every day tasks) desktop PC (£300 excluding monitor which we all obviously already have or plug it into your HDTV) and a mid market Android tablet (£200-300). Maddness!!!

Given the choice id take that lot over an ipad, but seriously i would really like to know why some wouldnt?

l purchased a 3ghz system with 8gb ram for under £300 tho l do admit the parts were on offer at ebuyer at the time.. however l really lucked out tho there was teething problems on the setup lol.

Go to £400 for a desktop and you can get an core i5 rig
£400 i3 laptop and £200 left for a reasonably good tablet. The more i think about it the less i understand Apple buyers, that buy every ipad and every iphone.
