IPV6 Support

Hi all,
Does anyone with Fibrenest have an IPV6 address. Being locked behind their CGNAT implementation I am considering paying for static IP. If I can utilise IPV6 I don't think I will need to. This article (https://www.ispreview.co.uk/index.p...-survey-of-uk-altnet-fttp-broadband-isps.html) seems to suggest the network supports it but I am wondering if it's something on my end of theirs? (I am using my own router in place of theirs but don't believe that this should be the issue.

I do use Tailscale but its difficult to get family members to install and use when wanting to access my Plex server.

Thanks

I have a fixed IP for free (historical reasons I think) but I will now have to pay once I move to 900mb. Not sure why, but often with Fibrenest it's not worth arguing because they're not very technical.

Does simply enabling IPV6 bypass the CG NAT issues? Any downsides? I use my own router so it's a simple enough change.

IPv6 will bypass IPv4 CGNAT if the traffic is handled over the IPv6 protocol, basically both end points need to support IPv6.

Of course CGNAT's hindrance is primarily on inbound requests to your network, services type stuff, if you use it, configure it, then anything accessing your network that is capable of IPv6, should be able to communicate without CGNAT problems. But not everything out there supports IPv6.

If you want assurance everything needed can get by CGNAT, then get something like the L2TP tunnel service from AAISP. Either that or get a package that doesnt use CGNAT (preferably static IP).

Your will be able to access your ports however the IPV6 address renews and changes weekly or whenever your router power cycles.

On the 900mbps now (since yesterday) are you experiencing any speed issues tonight or jitter as I am

1 massive issue... they seem incapable of actually giving me 900mbps. I've always got around 520 down and 75-80 up. Basically the limits for the 500/80 package.

I've supposedly been provisioned, they seem to just re-tell me the same line over and over, despite screaming "yes, but it's STILL 520/80 - it's still clearly either an arbitrary limit because the package is wrong, or my development/cabinet hasn't been enabled for 900 yet".

As per usual with Fibrenest, they're absolutely fine when you don't need to contact them - it's not as bad as people make out. But as a company to deal with, and surprisingly for such a small provider - NO ONE TALKS TO EACH OTHER.

It's a nightmare. I use my own router, but the evidence is clear - I don't need them to send me a router for them to do their own speedtest - just trust in what I'm telling them.

Anyway, rant over - it sounds like maybe I'm better off staying on 500 for now?!

They have reset my connection from their end and since 9am this morning IPV6 has been perfect no jitter on connection and over 900mbps down and o’around 115 upload, if it stays like this I will be happy enough but only time will tell. I did have to wait until my next billing date before I was upped to 900/110 not sure how long you have waited yet.

Also I did see a blog post meevans I think it was, that says sites are usually provisioned with 10Gb connections so if 100 people in your site dating that connection it’s likely 500 will experience bottle necks never mind 900, again I don’t know the truth of this.
