I have a GPS tracker for my dog which uses 2.5G for its internet connection so I can track him if he gets out of sight. The company have a newer model which they've advertised as only having 4G support so I contacted them and they confirmed the device had no 2G support. (I'm using the term 2G generally to include 2.5G and 2.75G or whatever EDGE is)
I don't have any experience with small dedicated mobile devices like this and I'm wondering are there 4G only modems that can't connect on 2G? The company have discontinued the older model I use and I feel a 4G only tracker given the product is likely to be mostly used in the countryside with no 4G coverage would make the tracker much less useful. I know 3G is being turned off but I thought the older 2G networks were being kept.
