Is amazon UK becoming a gamble?

I ask, because I am slighty weirded out by their pricing practices.
5 minutes ago I looked at their memory prices, their 1gb viking sd card was at £17 roughly. I refresh the page now, and it is at around £10. I defintely looked at the Amazon price, not other resellers.

And their 512mb viking card, was £17 this morning which I was shocked by, but is now, £6.73.

What is going on?

I have always had first class service from Amazon, so I wouldn't worry too much.

I think they get bulk buys of some items, hence the re-pricing.

I bought a Deep Fat Fryer from them last October, it died, sent them an e mail, they sent me a replacement, no problem.

Oh and flash memory prices seem to be falling everywhere.
That is good news.;)

whenever I want anything I always check with Amazon first to see if they sell it .Their prices and service have always been excellent

I've always used amazon for buying stuff online and never had a problem with it. It always comes withing the estimated dates and sometimes before that! :)

I dont mind amazon, but they are getting mroe complex to use. Rarely is the price you see the price you pay, since they automatically switch between marketseller prices and amazons prices. You must constantly check to see if it is amazon sending your order, and if it is, make sure your order is exempt from shipping costs, (some items such as tft monitors have a charge, regardless of spending over £15.)

Plus delivery is not what it used to be. Estimates are long and where you could once order on a friday morning and receive on the following saturday, not you have to wait the whole weekend.

That said, their returns policy is the best to none. Its ectremely efficient and simply requires the printing out of a barcode, to stick onto the same parcel you received, which you send back, since you can reseal it again using the adhesive glue on the box already.

I buy tonnes of books from Amazon directly, and the marketplace sellers, where you can get really good deals on remaindered items. :)

That system wasn't in operation yesterday when I had to pay to send an item back at the post office, however they are going to refund me the cost.

Agreed, their delivery service is quite a lot slower these days, especially the free delivery, but still the best deals around on many items.

I note that they have moved operations from Bedford to Scotland.

They're normally fine so long as the item you desire is in stock, if not then I've had unforgivable delays lasting up to six months, especially on books (Amazon are rather optimistic with expected stock dates).

Lest we not forget what they did to those poor Xbox360 pre-order customers, which had to wait 5 months, despite Amazon stating that they had order early enough to get it upon release. Things like this are not uncommon and why I’ve given up on Amazon.

Quick update, they have refunded my postage cost of returning the faulty item, so well done Amazon.

I will still be using them.

TBH..Where else can you get free delivery on items costing £15 ?

I know some other places, I can't remember exactly but Dabs and such like sometmes have special deals though on some items.

Fair comment, but that is usually only a few selected items, Amazon is almost across the board.

I have given up on Dabs since they changed their Web Site, it is a nightmare to negotiate.

ive noticed with amazon that there prices are constantly updated

its actually good news for us consumers if you try and buy a decent sized sd card anywhere else e.g retail/high street shops they will charge you nearly £60.

Amazon are defo a good choice for practically everything...

I won't use Dabs either, since you can't telephone them and they don't usually answer emails from people who have already paid.

A colleague of mine tried to by a monitor from them. After umpteen emails and high blood pressure they finally delivered one. OK, so it wasn't the one he asked for, but it was a start....
