Is Anybody there?

Hello people. I am trying to get my dad on adsl (for my little bro's sake). How is the service? Still good for most? Last thing I want to do is stick him on a lemon.

Why not suggest Plus.net's 150k ADSL @ £14.99 a month???

Just checked the speed:-

Downstream 473 Kbps (59.1 KB/sec) 510 Kbps (inc. overheads)
Upstream 246 Kbps (30.8 KB/sec) 265 Kbps (inc. overheads)

To be honest though what does it matter? It's consistently over ten times faster than any dial up :-)

Still VERY pleased with the service and have recommended it to many friends.

It's easy to say that when you have such good speeds ;)
I used to get 473 on a good day! :)
No, speed isn't that important as long as it doesn't continue dropping. :hrmph:
I will keep an eye on it.

Despite this minor niggle, I too, am very pleased with the service and recommend them at every available opportunity.
:D

Thar, thanks the pointer to http://bbs.adslguide.org.uk/ - scroll down a page or 2!

There's more of us out there!

You're welcome silly!

I read about this forum on a post on ADSL guide so it works both ways.

Come and visit the Metronet forum, it gets lonely over there sometimes. :)

Damn it I could of. Never thought of that. Bit late now, cos Id have to covince him to cancel freeserve, and sign up with plusnet, as well as buy a modem...

It appears very quiet in Metronet forum recently.

Are people still with Metronet or have they moved on to another ISP?

I’m still with Metronet (joined end of July’03) apart from a few problems in May/June (see other posts) and a complete loss of connection of over a day for many people the system has been very reliable.

I'm still with 512kbps; but think many are thinking about a move to 2048kbps.

So far after they Upgraded their software, the routers havnt crashed.

I do seam to loose connection to the net for about 1 or 2mins once in a while... Kinda anoying, but Only seams to happen once or twice a week...
By this I mean I cant load pages etc.. (Get booted if im playing a game) but my router doesnt actually dissconnect, wait a min or 2 and its all ok again.

Coming upto the end of my 3month's contract now, but seeing the things been "Mostly" stable, I'll stay awhile, unless someone else offers me anything good....

No problems for me since they sorted out their issues with the BT Redbacks. Just done an ADSLguide.org speed test:

Downstream 926 Kbps (115.8 KB/sec) True: 1000 Kbps (inc. overheads)
Upstream 243 Kbps (30.4 KB/sec) True: 262 Kbps (inc. overheads)

My last monthly bill was £18.54 - can't grumble at that!

No complaints at all - excellent service.
