Is fttp finally on the way?

Just been looking on our Road Works Commissioner website [for Scotland, as all roadworks have to be made public], and spotted that there are a bunch of Openreach roadworks appearing across the town that look similar to this entry for the nearby town [where the handover/metro node exists]:

Are all of these a strong indicator that Full Fibre broadband is on the way in the near future? New entries pop up each day, so when i check tomorrow, more will be listed in different roads.

"Possibly" - It's certainly not a negative sign but as for whether it's a strong indicator that FTTP is on the way soon I don't think we can stretch that far.

In my case, I tracked local OR-related roadworks and permits over the course of 3 years before FTTP arrived from OR.

Ultimately I'd see it as an encouraging sign rather than anything definitive.

It won't be available until it's available. Who is to say they don't just leave your property out. It happens. Not saying it will for you, of course. However, it is indeed a good sign.

It could be FTTP. Or it could be to support a connection for a commercial customer ordering a OR provided service. You just can't tell other than they are sorting out their ducts.

I'd say from that 'Grahams road to clubhouse' that its perhaps the golf club getting a new connection, maybe a leased line. I think it'd be an odd place for an FTTP node or CBT

Hi folks, thanks for all the replies. Based on how more entries have appeared along more road sections with the same text, its my feeling these are likely for full fibre provision [although theres a chance they’re just extending a spine network for elsewhere], but will wait a week or two for Openreach to update their website to see if this ends up being the case.

@plunet @mwarby the screenshot in my OP is just one of mang roadworks entries, with the exact same description — with variable expected start times — in the surrounding area with different location definitions [because its been apparently separated into smaller pieces that are covered by openreach].

I used the one above to avoid revealing an exact location for where i live; hope that is more clear. i just didn’t want to spam the forum with 20+ images all showing basically the same thing, but if you look on the same website [ https://www.roadworksscotland.org/ ] with a date range of 01/01/2024 - 31/12/2026, you should be able to see all the roadworks in that general area 👍

It could be early preparation works, in which case service might not be available for a year or two, or it might be work unrelated to residential FTTP. You may not see any updates on Openreach website until a few days before it goes live.

But since ~45% of the country have Openreach FTTP today, and 85% are expected to have it by Dec 2026, the chances are 40:15 in your favour that you will have it by then.

Well thats a bit of coincidence that has just confirmed my thoughts: i have just spotted 3 openreach-branded staff wandering around my housing estate, no van in sight either, looking at the manhole/chamber thats just outside my house [snd provides the ducting for the other 5 houses in this cul-de-sac].

one of them was wheeling a hose-like line of yellow [or orange] tubing [probably the ducting used to put fibre wires into it, or perhaps it was a borscope/measuring wire to look inside the ducts, as it was probably surveyors to fheck the underground infrastructure], another was carrying the small barriers they use when they’re down manholes and another probably there to find the underground chambers. After about 5 minutes of looking at the manhole, they wandered off to go and find another one, so weren’t here on any kind of work order for an individual house/property.

Guess its not far away now for someone to start piping the cabling into the chambers!!
