Is pipex capping unlimited accounts

I don't usually do heavy downloading but just this week I did have quite a few downloads of over 12 gig and after shutting down pc and rebooting I couldn't connect.

I kept getting error 721 which said isp was not responding.

I thought perhaps something was wrong with my adsl modem, so I uninstalled it and re-installed it but still got the same error message.

Thinking it might be a problem with my pc,I then installed the modem in my son's pc and got the same error message.

I phoned pipex technical support and was kept hanging on for ten minutes then the line went dead. I phoned back, was kept hanging on for another 10 minutes, then a recorded voice told me they were too busy and to phone back tomorrow.

I phoned this morning and was told it must be a driver problem with my modem and to uninstall and re-install again and if that didn't work, I had to phone back.

When I put down the phone, I decided to try to connect one last time and surprise, surprise I got through straight away.

What I would like to know what caused this OR, is Pipex capping unlimited user accounts and if so, it would be good practice to inform their customers who are paying for unlimited access.

Other people have had a problem like this, where their broadband only seems to work after the phone has been used. Might want to do a search on this and other forums about it.

i very much doubt pipex are capping their unlimited accounts and im sure they wouldn't do it for 12gb, after all their light packages can include 15gb of data transfer. Is it a USB modem?

It is a usb modem and the 12gig was within one week. I can't really account for the rest of the month as my son downloads lots of things as well.

I have 2 pcs networked so downloads could have been massive lol.

As for the phone being used theory, I can't see it being that as I used my phone throughout the evening trying to phone pipex.

The short answer to that question is NO Pipex are not capping unlimited access accounts, and according to Pipex they are not likelt to either.

I know lots of users use USB modems but from my experience they create more problems than any other part of the DSL connection. I had nothing but problems when ive played with them. Junk it and get yourself a decent ethernet router, there avaiable from like £25+.

The original post is from May 2005, from a time when Pipex DID NOT cap unlimited accounts

In April 2006, the answer to the same question is, unfortunately .......

Yes - they are.
Pipex are capping unlimited accounts. If not in word, in deed.
