Is Sky ADSL / ADSL2 or 2+

Hi

Sky have recently enabled my exchange. Currently i'm on a semi-rural exchange and my adsl2 (992.5) provided by BT syncs between 5 and 6mb. Ive been looking at moving to sky so I could have a triple play discount. The Sky checker states my speed with be between 0.5 and 2mb. Is this going to be delivered over ADSL Max? or is the checker being overly cautious? Talktalk LLU also estimates my speed at 2mb/s stopping me ordering youview through them.

Thanks for your help.

Ben

Question, does the BT Wholesale checker for your line give a similar estimate? My guess is that it probably will.

In any case Sky, like BT's system, will try to get the best out of your line when you join and the estimate's given are rarely reliable.

What are your line stats?

ADSL Line Status

Connection Information

Line state: Connected
Connection time: 3 days, 00:45:18
Downstream: 5.056 Mbps
Upstream: 1.094 Mbps

ADSL Settings

VPI/VCI: 0/38
Type: PPPoA
Modulation: G.992.3 Annex A
Latency type: Interleaved
Noise margin (Down/Up): 6.0 dB / 5.8 dB
Line attenuation (Down/Up): 45.6 dB / 27.4 dB
Output power (Down/Up): 19.8 dBm / 12.8 dBm
FEC Events (Down/Up): 2960343 / 12369
CRC Events (Down/Up): 486 / 661
Loss of Framing (Local/Remote): 0 / 0
Loss of Signal (Local/Remote): 0 / 0
Loss of Power (Local/Remote): 0 / 0
HEC Events (Down/Up): 3977 / 959
Error Seconds (Local/Remote): 104396 / 1880

The modulation changes sometimes between 992.3 and 992.5. Normally when I get .5 my connection is slightly above 6mb, when I get .3 its between 5 and 6 mb.

Hmm with those stats you should be able to get around 5Mbps to 7Mbps and so I'm surprised the estimate given is 0.5Mbps to 4Mbps. On the other hand your noise margin looks a little strained so maybe your line has experienced the odd drop in the router logs (a good router can still handle low margins so it might not be an issue), which could over time effect the estimate.

Thanks mark.

I tried ordering talktalk TV but it won't allow me to because it reports my estimate as 2mb, which is very frustrating. Tose stats are with a BT homehub3.
