Is Smarty Unlimited Data really unlimited?

Yes I got a PAC (not STAC) code from 3. Then I went online to get my Smarty deal but when I put in the PAC code it must have recognised my old number was data only, because the price then went up to £20 a month! I'm guessing I will have to get the Smarty deal up and running and then just cancel the 3 deal....but then you have to pay them for 30 more days. It's not easy!
It shouldn’t make a difference if your old SIM was data only or not.

i would get the smarty sim and deal first, then use the pac once the deal is set up
I’d do this and then enter the PAC.

Yeah I was surprised. I entered the PAC code, then the website (Smarty) asks for the number you are transferring. When I put that in the deal changed to the data only plan at £20! I could not get it back to the £15 deal.
As suggested I will get the Smarty deal running and then just cancel my old SIM with a STAC code. I don't need to keep the old number for my wireless broadband. Hopefully the router is not locked to it!

I'd say so 👀

When you cancel your 3 contract you have to give 30 days notice (as mentioned above) - Your service will remain running until the end of that 30 day period. I always wait until there's just 2 or 3 days left then order my new sim. I'm going to do this with my current 3 contract but hanging on for a while to see if 3 or Smarty do any Black Friday deals.

So if I get the Smarty unlimited deal, unlimited calls and texts currently at £15 a month, monthly contract ...can I put that SIM into my 3, ZTE router just used for home broadband, not making any calls with it?
I'm asking because the Smarty Data only deal is £20, so £5 a month more...so £60 a year more?
I'm therefore worried that the regular, unlimited phone SIM will not work in my home router? Anyone done it?
You can get £12 cashback too with Top Cashback...so long as you use the new SIM for at least 2 months.
£15 ??…..where is that,,,,,ive been paying £20 all year

Yeah talking BS, I've been on Smarty unlimited (£16 pm) for 13 months and more than 4 times gone over 1TB due to lots of streaming, WFH and windows downloads and speeds stay the same

I think if you port your number over with a PAC or STAC code then they don't charge you for the remainder of the 30 days? I could be wrong, I'm about to do it in a few days so will find out!

If you use a PAC or STAC they'll charge you pro-rata up to the day you port away unless you have anything left on the minimum term. If you gave time left on it they'll charge you an early termination fee (ETF) which will be a pro-rata charge of the remaining days on the contract.

You can text INFO to 85075 if it's a single line and they'll send you any potential charges. If you have more than one line on a contract you need to call up and they'll let you know what the ETF is.

Thanks for that. My contract expired some time ago. They still try to charge you for a 30 day notice period but let's see what happens...

Well I got my Smarty SIM on the £15 a month, unlimited everything deal, put it into my 3 branded ZTE mc801a 5G router and straight away got speeds of over 450 meg.
A day later I ported over my old number from 3 to Smarty, just to cancel my 3 contract. The transfer was successful and my tariff seems not to have changed.
Now, however the speeds are a lot worse! Only 10-40Mbps down, 47 up.
Now this could just be a crowded network but I was wondering, do I need to reset my router? Factory reset? Different firmware? Or do I need to change the APN settings? Worked fine at first?
Could 3 be nobbling me now that we have left?

Update.
Changed APN to mob.asm.net didn't make much difference at first but it has settled down now to about 350 down, 60 up. I have been using 11-15 gig of data each day (streaming tv mainly) and the speeds have not been throttled yet but they do seem to drop at busy times.
So far, happy with the switch to Smarty @ £15 per month, monthly contract and they say this can continue for another 14 months as long as you stay on auto renew each month.
