is there a way to import PSTN line number to VOIP while the broadband is on that line

is above possible or do I need to take another line put the BB there and move this line to VOIP? I would like to keep my current number in 2 places which is why I need the voip

Provided the VoIP provider supports it then, yes, you can PORT (Move) your PSTN phone number to an Internet based VoIP service. I suspect Vonage can do it and I know Voipfone do too.

However keeping the line for broadband might be a problem because porting a number tends to cease the line at the same time (Openreach still aren't setup for broadband-only style naked connections), but as it's not something I've ever attempted then I'm not best placed to advise. The alternative might be to forward your PSTN number to a separate VoIP one.

Thanks Mark I'm thinking to get a new line from AAISP and port the number to VOIP provider. if the voip provider go bust will I loose the number ? or BT still owns it ?

I thought about forwarding but then I have to keep paying the line rental to BT + call charges

I'm not sure. I think the main problem is that numbers tend to be distributed as part of a service, rather than the number being under the direct customer's ownership, so if a VoIP provider did go bust then I imagine that might cause some problems.

Not always. There are protections in place for this but after porting, there is some reliance on the original range holder.

If the number you are talking about is BT then, even if you port a few times, it always relies on BT to ensure the calls get to their new ported destination.
